Hi all you BC drivers, can you advise if I go 10kms over the speed limit if I'll get pulled over in BC on the major highways?

In Alberta, you can usually go 10kms per hour over the speed limit (not talking school zones, etc.) on the roads without getting pulled over.

I have a drive to Kelowna and I usually feel comfortable at 110 on a 100 Kph road here, but not sure in BC.

I want to get there as fast as possible but don't want to push it either.

I don't think 10 over is putting anyone's life in danger.

You will be holding up traffic at 10 over. Please stay to the right on the passing lanes so I can get by your slow as$!! Thank you for your cooperation.

Lol. You're not worried about getting a ticket? I always stay to right to allow faster vehicles by.

Is this a serious question?

Depends on the colour of your license plate.

AB plate - 10 over
BC plate - 20 over
BC plate w/ Emergency services plate - 30 over

Your experience may vary depending on which highway and traffic.

Thanks. Taking the Valemount to Merrit, then connector to Kelowna route. I know that that Highway 5 south of Kamloops is 120 KPH and the connector is as well, but the roads north of there I'd imagine are 100.

Just wondering if we'd get the 10 over tolerance like we do here.

As long as you are not driving aggressively or stupidly you are normally safe at 10 over.

Just do the best you can, especially in the corners.

10 over will be fine for all of that. Careful in the towns, 10 over will be fine there too but less leniency. Hwy 5 from Tete Jaune to Kamloops you'll be lucky to do the speed limit, lots of traffic this time of year and not many passing lanes.

And don't just go 10 over in the straight a-ways and 10-20 under in the corners because my cruise control does not automatically slow for the corners. I can't stand those tards in their little cars that can't make the corners at a decent speed when my big truck should be worse but I have no problem. Then they speed when I want to pass on the straights.

I was driving today around Sicamous and Im going appx 10% faster than the posted speed limit and the person behind me is getting all pizzy back there in my mirror and tailgating me, likely because of my red and white license plate. It happens with both men and women of all ages. Its pretty bad actually, especially when I am already behind someone with no option to pass or in a school zone. Some of you fellas and chicks over here need to chill out, you will live longer.

The people happy with driving slow truly are the winners in the end but it is impossible for some of us as it is unbearably frustrating at times. That is why we chose off-road activities where we can release our pent up aggression. Please don't put speed limits on the trails I ride.

I get it but 90% of the time I wind up passing the people who go zipping by, and arrive in a town at the same time anyways, as I tend to actually be 1-2km/hr faster than most of the traffic but don’t catch traffic quickly. If I see someone coming in hot i doo speed up a little til a passing lane and then wheel over and let them go by. More to this are the foreigners in rental cars not merging right to let faster traffic through. Brutal.

Have a safe long weekend and summer everybody, traffic will be an issue so crank some Skynyrd and enjoy it while it lasts. Summer solstice is June 21 and the days get shorter hahaha

The coquihala is a wild ride... 2 years ago we had my truck loaded up pretty good and 4 of us in the truck(2013 ram 1500 with handling package, air ride suspension, perf tires) and south of merrit some of those corners are dicey at 120kph i thought. Then when you come across truckers that suddenly pull out in front of you to pass another big rig, the brakes get hit pretty hard....

Speed limits already exist on FSR's in BC, which is much of what we ride as "trails".

Speed restriction

4. A person must operate a motor vehicle on a forest service road at a speed that

(a) is safe for the conditions, and

(b) does not exceed the lesser of

(1) 80 km/h, and

(2) the speed posted on a relevant traffic control device.
