As a younger guy myself, I honestly think you have no one to blame but yourselves. Not trying to incite an argument here but I honestly think its the parents of this generation who kinda messed it up. They allowed kids to be socially engineered like this. From participation medals, not being able to keep score in games, taking physical contact out of sports, allowing kids to get away with anything they want, "snowplow parenting", helicopter parenting and not keeping kids accountable, not even to mention allowing far left wingers to control the media and school curriculum, i mean have you read a social text book recently? It's complete and utter garbage! the socialist/communist propaganda in them is brutal, it is brutally critical of capitalism and actual freedom and praises social policies and big government. We can change it though, we need a fire sale on that crap and the crap in universities, stop the brooding of socialists and start teaching kids to think for themselves, have critical thought and work with their hands.

The silent majority can speak up and stop this but instead we choose to complain about it and do nothing. And guess who is going to suffer from this? thats right your kids and your grand kids.

Yup you nailed it!! Only one thing I can think of adding...parents really need to stop telling their kids they can be anything they want when they grow up. I get the meaning behind that statement is just to instil confidence to follow their dreams, but lets face it not all of us can be rocket scientists!! What we really need to do is help them set realistic goals based on their individualities and give them the reassurance that we will support them in whatever career path THEY choose instead of something we want them to become.

about 10 years ago I went and watched my nephew play hockey and we sat just above the players bench. I watched the little pukes perform temper tantrums when something did not go their way such as breaking sticks over the boards, kicking the boards and spaying water from their bottles. To my surprise, instead of disciplining them the coach would walk over and stoke their egos with pats on the backs etc. I commented to my sister in law and she supported it saying the kids need to vent somehow. I call BS! What ever happen to having fun and being a good sport.

Yup you nailed it!! Only one thing I can think of adding...parents really need to stop telling their kids they can be anything they want when they grow up. You're right I think its more so to tell them that its ok to have a blue collar job and its ok to work with your hands. I think now a days there is such a push to go to a college or university when a lot of kids would be better off in a trade or industry.

True, not every kid is a rocket scientist but it doesn't hurt to push them a little bit. I'd much rather see a kid over achieving than underachieving. ...and it doesn't hurt to beat it into their heads that they may not always get to do what they want to and may just have to do what they can get until what they want comes along.

Don't just blame the parents because it goes much deeper then that. I've got twin boys who just turned 20 and couldn't be more different. From one being a honour roll student and the other being a dropout(decided to get his GED last year though). One all about sports where the other was a band kid who could barely throw a ball.
Sometimes I think we were too strict with our boys, examples being them having jobs in the summer at the age of 14 to earn spending money, and maybe being over cautious of the friends they chose to hang out with. Our boys had specific chores around the house, curfews and rules. Where I think we fail is in areas like the school systems, where when before, if you had an assignment due on friday, it's due on friday or you got zero. Now, if you did manage to hand it in but failed, you could rewrite the test, or if you didn't hand it in you would get an extension.
Or how about in our work force having to give employees numerous warnings before letting them go!! I'm sorry but if you can't do the work you were hired to do you're gone. I'm sorry but I see it and hear it all the time, "hard working, dependable, work with little to no supervision, work well with others". If you have no experience, fine, we will train you, but don't try and B.S us. Kids these days constantly need a pat on the back.

We all know you can't take a turtle a plane. Where were the parents while they were getting ready to leave home? Were they afraid to tell their daughter no for fear of hurting her feelings. Why weren't they teaching her a real life lesson and have the turtle taken to a friends place?

I am very glad I quit teaching when I did. I may have had to go to jail or be fired with no pension with my very consistent discipline in the classroom. I couldn't even phathom what it would be like today.

You have to learn to lose before you can learn to win and there are some tough lessons out there. People with bubble wrapping will have a hard time growing up.

The big problem now is this new generation that you are complaining about is now voting. As a business owner and a father of 2 boys, 19 yr old and a 22 yr old, I am seeing the differences close up. Their generation is largely out of touch with many realities and experiences that my generation had to learn the hard way. We underestimate how much we learned from our friends growing up too. Now kids live much more isolated lives, with most connection to their friends through social media. When I grew up just about every kid got their drivers licence as soon as they were 16, now many of my kids friends don't even drive till 20+ yrs old. There simply was no friends around them at that time to drive the competition. When I hire workers I look for "Can Do" type people, it is very hard to find young people like this because not many have had to solve problems and find solutions. These are the people going to vote and any good politician that tells them "life will be easy" is going to sway them for support. My youngest was all for the NDP simply because they offered an increased minimum wage. He did not care about anything else and I had to clue him in how it effected my business and how prices of goods and service would increase proportionately until our province could no longer compete in the "world market"
