I hear ya. It always has been a rough town, got into it with some locals probably 15 yrs ago on a sled trip. We have some nasty peeps and issues around here also but it's a pretty clean place to be.

Because it's a long drive out and it really needs 10+ years of Nick Adonis, Relic and the rest of the Beachcombers working 24/7 to get rid of all the floating logs.
Not to mention the waterline goes in and out about 80+ meters of muddy stumps depending on how much the dam is flowing.

Good one and your right. I would never want to put my bowrider on that lake. So many deadheads. Biggest mistake Hydro did not to remove the stumps before flooding back in the sixties.

Don't forget the lake can have powerful storms with 15ft+ swells that occur out of no where to push you into those deadheads. If u don't believe me ask the local bait shop owner in Revelstoke. He almost capsized and drowned up there. He will never go on the lake again above Mica. Too many big mountains producing to much natural power. No wonder that's where all the snow is...Weigle knows that's why he hates sledders!

Because there is a Hindu temple in golden makes me a racist? Not likely. It is of note as lots of imbreeds in town like to cause fights with them.

I really think that i depends on what you want in your life. Goldens my favorite area to play in. I lived around Lake Louise for 15 years and always thought about moving to Golden. But the wages were horrible, the jobs aren't there, the houses expensive and the chance of advancing my career weren't there. Most of my friends who live in Golden are unemployed 6 months or more out of the year. Being unemployed half the year is great, but i'd never be able to own a home, support a family and pay the bills. I got sick of living around Lake Louise/ Banff being on the poverty line and moved to Cochrane. Things are great!!! Sure I don't get out as much, but I can actually afford my sled and truck, not finance my life away.
Each to their own however. I actually do have sledding, dirt biking, paragliding, ski touring, hiking, rock climbing, ice climbing, mountaineering, mountain biking. Yep we can do all those things close to Calgary. I'm pretty sick of the B.C. self rightous B.S, that goes around. You have a beautiful area out there I definetly enjoy it, but its not the town I would choose to support my family from. My tax dollars shouldn't go out to people who are constantly on EI. If there's no jobs.....move your lazy ass out of there. If I could fly from Calgary for a week in week out oilfield job and was single......then HELL YEAH!!!!!

Not wanting to stir the pot but lots of alberta patch workers work 6 months and play on the ei team as well. Not really an option to move your family for the winter when you are a logger in the summer.
I moved out here from Alberta for the lifestyle, I don't care if I drive a new truck or own a new sled but last week I sled skiied friday night after work, mountain biked Sat and took the family into the bush exploring on Sunday. Slept in my own bed each night, saw my kids every morning and put them to bed each night. To me this is worth more than $ from working in the patch day after day wishing I could play or see my family. You never hear of a rich guy on his death bed saying he wished he could have made more money.
Problem with the back country around Calgary is you have to share it with 100,000 other users.
BC Self rightous attitudes..... glass houses dude, plenty of that coming from East of the border as well. Heard lots of "your town would be nothing without AB money" on this site

Well said!!!! as for the bottom two items about us having to share it with 100,000..... your right it blows goats... I LOVE coming to BC and playing in the mountains and wish i could live there as well. I came from BC work and live in Calgary and if it wasnt for business i would be there for sure.
As for the other self rightous.... you guys earned it.... have you seen your back yard. Thats why we come!!! and finally big deal about the Alberta money... last i saw it was all printed in the same place and has same value. So my two cents.... BC is BC and we love it. If we dont live there thats our issue.... if we dont want to live there then dont bash it.... Your right there is TOO MUCH of that on this site

I've lived in Golden for 10+ years and I'd have to say that overall it's pretty damn sweet. Of course it's not perfect, but no place is. My biggest satisfaction comes from how close we are to so much raw nature, which provides countless adventures in all seasons and in so many mediums (sled, bike, fishing rod, gun, skis, golf clubs, hockey gear, dirt bike, camper etc...). I'd also have to say that the town has a really good vibe when it comes to raising families and supporting each other in tough times. There's often community events and there's a decent variety of activities to put your kids in. I enjoy living in a small town where everything is a 2 minute drive, a 5 minute bike or 15 minute walk away.
There's a good retort to all teamdirt's bitching but I can't really be bothered with it. When you live here, you figure it out and you plan your life around getting it good, which also includes going on holidays to other places.
I am so thankful I don't have to live in a lego-land city stuffed with people. I hate sitting in traffic and at stop lights; to me that's pure death.

Im planning on living in Golden or Revy this winter, havent decided which yet(they both have pros and cons)
and just ride 5 or 6 days a week,,, Might even collect some EI while im at it. Ive payed hundreds of dollars a month in EI premiums since I was 18. And this year im collecting some back. Why not?

Bin looking at properties around golden,realestate is very reasonable in that area if you ask me.hope I'm not making a mistake,found a perfect house 1/4 mile from hospital creek staging area,hoping to live their and work in ab ,sounds fn perfect to me.as far as undesirables **** show me a town that doesn't have them

tried golden for 6 months 3 years ago rented a big house and sledded and partyed was a great snow year had a blast made great friends but its a different vibe for sure, this year I"ll have a place in elkford got a opertunity to explore there and new zones to rip up I will report back in the spring lol
