Is the trail groomed into the riding area in Old Man. I have been in there once many years ago with a friend of mine from Golden. Would love to get back in there again. I dont know if i can remember how.

Was on the way into Old Man a few years back. Was low on gas by that point and we turned back for the trucks. What's the riding like up there?

They don't actually run the groomer up to the Old Man now do they? Wow, so they started this year. Interesting.

I haven't been back there in years. For those who haven't been in there, I would say its Gormanish type terrain, it is maybe 5-7 miles North of it.

I have to say Golden has stepped up there grooming program and trail improvements. I hadn't heard much more after the West Bench trail opened, Silent used to be one of my go to spots for day and mid week rides, Quartz was never my thing, Gorman was hit and miss, some of the other "local" areas were fun but on a year like this where Golden has just as good of snowpack as some other areas and with the managed areas they have added to their riding areas I feel like they haven't gotten the attention its maybe deserving. Plus there are so many spots that are still relatively easy to access that a almost secret gems. Good Job.

Golden sucks Danny, everybody should just keep driving to Revy. yep, Old Man is on the list now too, far easier access now than crossing the hi-way.

Yeah haha the Sicamous guys like to say the same. We are fortunate to have the choices we do have! As long as people avoid SE BC I happy.

Wow all this grooming opening up East Quartz, likely easy access to Holt, not having to dodge cars and ditch bang up some rocky ledge, what a change! Lol

Honestly though I am glad they are recognizing the areas as “managed” areas. With the governments pulling back so many areas it requires groups and clubs to show the areas are in use to enforce the need to keep them open to sledders.

Good point, what's that, it's not well known? well then you don't mind if we just shut it down then do you? I wonder if that's a big reason they decided to do it or if they simply wanted to expand

When I look at the areas in Alberta that were “lost” due to not having approved trails for OHV I can’t help but wonder if a group or club would have actually requested the trails in both the Castle and Porcupine hills areas be recognized as approved trails that they would still be there.

People have taken for granted that just because a trail has always been there it must be legal or a designated trail but the reality is on SRD’s records there wasn’t a lot of trail systems approved. Maybe someone tried at one point but it has never been an argument that they did.

These crown/Wildland areas are just waiting to have the governments change the designation to Parks.

The laws between AB and BC parks differ slightly but have greater restrictions on them. It’s in the users best interest to have the clubs “managed” as many zones as they can and we need to support them in their efforts as far as I am concerned.
