No glacier access from Paradise Basin. Catamount glacier is accessed via Forster and it is closed until December1.
North Star is closed to sleds permanently.
Hey pano-dude never realized that northstar is closed permanantly. So Is there any sledding up there yet? the only stuff ive done last season is brewer creek and forester. thanks

Northstar is closed to sleds permanently. Doesn't mean guys don't go back there. I have to admit I've stood on top of the pass and looked down into it and really really been tempted. Never done it but I know men who have. From the olive hut in Forster it's just a couple bowls to the southwest to climb up to the pass to drop into Northstar. It's worth going up there for the view anyways.

Did I read that right. Catamount is open early now? Wasn't it February last year?

Whoa now, catamount was fought long and hard by some key groups/individuals to open up, and the dates are a solid feb15-June 1 only.
Ok good! That's what I thought. That area was shut down for far to many years to lose it over some goofballs screwing it up for everyone. It's Forster itself that opens up the first of December then eh?

Yes sorry my reply was a bit confusing. Foster opens Dec 1 and Catamount mid Feb.
It is a bs closure, no heli ski ops there anymore and very few skiers use it. I've skied the area a few times and it is not prime terrain.

No worries darc. Ya it is a stupid closure. I talked to one of the ski operator once and he said it got skied once all season. It's definitely not super stuff. Not very long runs and can get pretty flat for light. But absolutely amazing sledding.
What's the reasoning behind northstar 7 being closed?

Lol more confusing info...Catamount skiing is actually really good IF you have a sled to shuttle. To skin up that far us a waste if time.
North star is closed for the same reason, heli ski area but rk heli has no intention of going there anymore. It's to far yo fly and they no longer have a fuel cache in the area.

Fair enough. My wife had her board up on catamount last year and had a blast. Just complained about having to much snow. Like there's such a thing lol.
Makes no sense to me why they can't just share that stuff. They don't use it and there is countless better places for them to ski all over the place.

It's not rk heli so much as the hut society digging in their heels. There are a few old school old boys who are against motorized travel up there. But they sure like the revenue the speeders bring by renting the Dave White hut all winter....

What's the ratio of sledders renting Davey white and olive hut compared to skiers. And how many ski boys walk in and don't take the sleds to get there.

I don't have that info but our club has requested It and have never got a response. There are lots of skiers who rent it and many of them use sleds to shuttle. Most of the ski tour groups prefer the terrain behind the cabin.
There are groups who park at the bottom but not many.

The anti sled group is very small but they have the ear of the government. There will be a staff change in the local government agency in the near future that I hope will move the process along.
