Pony tank in a duramax

With the long travel to sledding, I am going to put a pony tank in the bed of the truck and have it plumbed right into the OE tank. Just checking with any body who has done this to see if I need a pump or if just a drain would work. Thanks to all in advance.

Re: Pony tank in a duramax

So the tank is higher then the OEM tank and you are going to let it flow freely in...or open a drain to fill it the close the drain?

Re: Pony tank in a duramax

Ya the tank is in the box. Then I will put in a 1/4 ball valve (as a safety), then I don't know if I need a little in line pump or a electronic valve. Put a switch in the cab and when you need to fill up, flip it on and keep driving.

Don't need a pump.Gravity works just fine.Mine used to have an electric valve with a switch in the cab,but it quit working so now its just plumbed direct.

This is the same as mine. It has a solenoid to open the gravity feed from the tank to the hose that is just cut into the stock filler hose. I wouldn't leave it open all the time.I left my switch open on holidays this year and drove from Kelowna to Edson and with the slip tank feeding the stock tank all the time it tripped something in the computor and my fuel gauge went to empty and the low fuel light came on? All I did was shut the switch off and drove for about an hour and the gauge came back on.

Ya I have heard of that, if the gauge doesn't move it messes it up.

That's easy! 4-6" hole saw,cut hole in canopy, buy filler neck with the shield ,attach one end to tank filler and screw/bolt other end into canopy. If you need to remove canopy, simply undo banjo clamp at the tank and remove hose, put original cap on to prevent spillage.

Oh here ya go,put 1 in my dads d-max. I think it's the 98 gallon, here to Sask. and return without a fill.
