Re: 2008 F350 Diesel Fuel Mileage?

My 08F350 when pulling a trailer gets around 12mpg and about 14mpg any other times, I have 39000 km on it. Not to happy with the mileage. Lots of power though.

For more go to Fuel Mileage - Diesel Forum - The Diesel Stop.com

Just did the same thing myself. Sold my 2008 FX4 F-150 for a 2008 SD 6" lift FX4 -350 extreme. right now with 76 hours on my truck Im reading 21 litres per 100 ltr.
Now as the difference. I drive all over the city at times 200-300k in city. but on a normal week per say. I drive aprox 100 k per day in city. old truck cost $145 to fill and last for day -day in half. SD costs aprox 130 to fill and last three in a bit days same driving in the city. Tested in out soon as I got it to see what the difference is. Hope that helps a bit.

Re: 2008 F350 Diesel Fuel Mileage?

Towing I get 12-13 mpg. In town and highway combined with only the quads and sled on is 14 mpg. Highway with only quads and deck is 15-16 mpg. Highway empty is 16-17.5. Trying to conserve fuel on the highway I have gotten 17.6-17.9 consistantly. The best I got with a strong tail wind, only the sled deck, 108kmh is 18.8 mpg (boost stayed between 6 and 10 psi). The worse i got is 6.5mpg with sled deck, two quads, pulling my travel trailer into an 60kmh head wind while driving at 120kmh ( boost never dropped below 35 psi and 50% of the time it was dropped out of overdrive). My truck only sees WOT when passing and towing.

Mine is a Job 3 with factory ride height and tires/wheels, running 3.73 gearing, no chip or tuner. My truck is scaling in at 9000+ pounds full of fuel and sled deck on. I have 10000kms on mine.

For every 3 psi of boost you loose 1mpg
For every inch you lift the truck you loose 1mpg. This includes lifts and tires. Use a Job 2 or 3 air dam if you have a Job 1 to gain 2mpg.
Sled deck alone or a tonneau cover will increase milage by 1mpg.
Cetane booster works if fuel at the pumps is less than 43. BTW cetane at PetroPass's fluctuates greatly (35 to 43).
Regens cost you 2-3mpg for 10 to 30 minutes. Regens are avoided with high egt, but high egt are created with sustained high boost so it's a catch 22.

If milage is a concern or you idle alot forget any of the 08+ diesels, look for a low milage '07. Friends with 08 f350 all get worse milage than me, but all are lifted with 35-40" tires. Friends with '08 Cummins and Duramaxs all get the same or worse as me under similar circunstances.

F350 gas unit leaves you with only two options. No towing power in the V8 or 8-12 mpg all the time with the V10.

The Diesel Shop link Ron gave you has lots of info on milage, but also read about DPFs while your there. DPF delete kits with tuners are seeing 20-22 (some claiming 25) mpg in US gallons; Gains like this are worth killing the engine warrenty at some point.

Re: 2008 F350 Diesel Fuel Mileage?

I have An 08 Superduty, Completly Stock.I Took It In For The 15000km Check And Asked The Guy's At Hansen Ford Is The Fuel milage Going To Get Better. He had Told me That At 30000km It Will Be Broke In And Fuel Milage Would Improve. My Reply Was it may Never See 30000 km I Can't Afford To Drive it. But Now it Has 31000km And The Average Is 16-17 mpg. Only If I Keep The Foot Out Of It. Pulling The Holiday Trailer 12-13mpg. Can Not Complain About The Ride And The handling For A 1 Ton Its A Beautiful Truck To Be Behind The Wheel At. If Only The Fuel Milage Would Get Better. Heard A Rumor That FSJ Ford Was Covering The Waranty On Engines That Guy's Who Had Cut Out the DPF. If This Could Only Be Truu ?

Re: 2008 F350 Diesel Fuel Mileage?

With regards to the Warranty I wouldn't touch anything, there all watching for issues relating with modifications. I know peeps at Ford and Dodge dealers and they do know that you have a chip, even if you remove it and ride for a bit. If you want a chip for your new ford I have one for sale, because I dont want to take that risk. I do really like the truck though, its beefy and it pulls the big trailers way better than any truck I ever towed with.

I was looking to upgrade to an 2008 as well but, decided to keep my 2006 for the mileage issue alone. I have a CC dulley 4x4 with 4:10 gears and a Bullydog programer and get between 20-22mpg. ( around 16mpg pulling my trailer) My local Ford dealer even admits they are having problems with the 2008`s due to all the new emissions laws. Although they would love to sell me a new truck they told me I was better off sticking with my 2006 for another year or two if I was at all concerned with mileage.
