My GM truck is an 02 duramax never had any other problems with the engine than the Injectors but that was warrenty at 120K. Otherwise the diesels strong pulls great and gets awsome fuel milage for a big truck. Too bad I waiting for my new F350 SD 4x4 6.4 Diesel, Ill miss the good fuel economy and nice ride.

AS A REPAIR SHOP OWNER AND LICENSED MASTER TECH AND EX GM TECHNICIAN AND FORD TECHNICIAN.....CHEV IS ALMOST WHAT DODGE IS. AND FORD IS GOOD FOR THE 1ST 100,000KMS OR SO(BEFORE THE EGR COOLERS, HEAD GASKETS, HIGH PRESSURE OIL PUMPS, INJECTORS, ETC. ETC). IF GMS WERE SO GOOD, THEN WHY CAN'T YOU GET AN APPOINTMENT IN A GM TRUCK SHOP FOR 1 MONTH IN ADVANCE FOR WARRANTY WORK?? TELLS YOU SOMETHING RIGHT THERE, AND FORDS JUST ABOUT AS BAD. CHECK OUT THE DODGE DEALERS AND ITS LIKE A MAYTAG REPAIRMAN COMMERCIAL --- THEY'RE KINDA SLOW RIGHT NOW, BECAUSE DODGE HAS VERY FEW DIESEL ISSUES. JEESE RORY, I KINDA LIKED YOU UNTIL NOW. LOL

You're asking the wrong question, you gotta ask why there is so few chevs or dodges in the oil patch (this being Alberta and all)and the answer is they cant hack it, the ones that try are sitting in the huge line ups to get repaired. Chevs are nothing but a caddy with a box and Dodges cant handle the water (my own personal experience which involved to many sodas!) Anyways, being absolutly serious now, there ALL JUNK!!

I do agree with the above, One of the guys at work had a 96 F250 Diesel, The Injectors are always an issue, he replaced 3 about 6 months ago now 3 more went. So he dicided to park it. Now his driving his 1980 GMC 3+3 long box, Now theres a Tank, you can lean on it and the metal doesnt pop, he says theres nothing to screw up, An engine, a carberator, steering wheel and 4 tires, whats to go wrong.
I would say for tin cans Dodge would win the competition, Ford would be in second and GM 3rd, lean on them and watch the metal flex. For Interiors that last I would say Ford would be #1, GM#2 and Dodge#3.
Im not going to comment on Powertrain as I not a Mechanic. But the older cummins is a great engine, the duramax has proven itself to the truck market, the powerstroke 6.0L had alot of problems now they came out with a 6.4 which had 1 issue with the exhaust shooting flames allready and I hope for my sake they fixed that.
I believe the Allison is the biggest and best auto transmission in the small truck market.

Those are only my opinions and were able to voice our opinion. They all used to make good vehicles.

I was brought up with GM's all my life, My first vehicle was a 77 Chev blazer in 86 so naturally I would drive a GM. My friend was brougt up with dodge's, hmm what does he drive a GM or a Dodge, A dodge it is. Boy im glad my parents didn't drive Lada's,
One of my friends is in the courier business and he drives a Dodge 3500, but he gets rid of it before the warr. is up, but he's had fuel pump and other fuel related issues too, on a brand new truck.

Why cant they build a truck with a F350 look, Cat engine, Allison Transmission, Rockwell diffs.

As a member of gmdiesl.com, thedieselstop.com(ford), and the turbodieselregister.com there are problems with them all. You have a good one or lemon you never know.

Price and only price

I have owned all Ford, Chev, and Dodge each one of them has there own problems and for most of them it's what dad and grandad drove is why you buy what you buy. I didn't care I drove what I drove I'm have no brand loyality. Ford I could never pin down exactly I didn't like just hated the whole thing, the ride, the cold starts, everything. Chev lots of cool gadets love gadgets, ok mileage, rode like a lumber wagon, dash to high feel like a kid riding in it, goofy shifts to the tranny rev to high in one gear and fall on it's face on the next gear have to drive around in tow mode to straighten it out, injectors...there a all day thread on that one. Which brings me to my current ride Dodge w/hemi no real cool gadgets but nice overall truck, tows good, handles awesome but the soft ride springs are to soft and any weight it sags right to the overload springs. I've been real happy with it been in the shop once when the warranty was running out they found the front rack seal had a sweat to it so they changed the whole rack and gave me a duramax 3500 longbox crew cab ....I looked like a hutterite didn't care never said a word wife compalined all the way home (diehard chevy girl )

Chev's

That's kind of an interesting comment there summtric, when I bought my Chev it was your mechanics that told me they had least amount of problems with Chev trucks.
And I'm not sure I agree about the wait time either, the last few times I had my Chev in it was a day or two at the most. Of course your my mechanic so I don't see the Chev dealaer often.
I did have injectors fail under warranty and that's common for Chevs and there was that Connector that had water getting in causing a huge misfire (thanks again for all the effort you put infinding and correcting that problem summitric). I really like my Chev Duramax and would buy another for sure.
Every truck will have it's problems, and even the highest rated will have some lemons. It's personal....I like Chev. Summitrics dodge is just ok, great back seat, but otherwise, just ok. Wouldn't buy a Ford....Period.

Just my two cents worth....

Some Before Others But They All Break!!!! I Had An 04 3/4ton Gmc Gas Job, Got Rid Of It With 180,000 On It And The Truck Was Flawless!!

Re: Why is it Duramax trucks are so awesome???

i would say in my opinion that dodges are junk. we have 15 dodges and 2 chevs at work & everyone with dodges want chevs. every dodge we have has been in the shop for tranny work & brakes. pretty sad when brakes are gone in 6 to 10k. we got two dodges going on their 3rd trannies with less than 60k. well so far no problems with the chevs ( knock on wood). Oh yeah the seats in the dodges suck. this is my 4th chev and haven't had any problems with any of them
