Diesel Fuel

I am alittle confused on all the new diesel specs. A friend of mine was looking to buy the new 08 powerstroke, ford tells him that he can't burn purple farm diesel because the there is too much sulfur in it. Ford says that it has to be ultra low sulfur diesel or else it voids warranty. Ultra low sulfur diesel is not sold at all stations, making it hard to fuel up any and everywhere. Ford is telling him that in 2010 that is the only diesel that can be sold in Canada, so what does this mean for the older model diesels? Are these older trucks going to start have engine issues from not having a diesel that doesn't lubricates pumps and injectors. I am alittle blown away by all these changes if anyone has any insight on this I would love to hear it?

older diesels won't have any problems with the "ultra low" sulphur content of the new fuels....... By mid 2007 all diesel fuel will be "ultra low" sulphur fuel(by law). Thats why diesel fuel prices went up so much lately. Its like they did with regular leaded and leaded gasolines. They put in additives to take care of the lubrication that the sulphur assisted in. No worries, mate!!! also note that "purple"(marked) diesel is illegal to run in any hiway driven vehicle. .......... Sshhhhhh!!!

I contacted Ford Canada with the same question on the availability of ULSD. I wanted to hear right from Ford, before I submitted my order for my '08 PSD. The reply I got back said that all diesel sold at the pumps of the major petro. companies in Canada; is already ULSD. However in Canada the diesel pumps are not required to display a "grade" as they are in the United States. So from what they said we've all been running ULSD for a while already. I can't wait for my new FX4 to arrive....

I always understood that as long as a vehicle displayed farm plates and proper registration it could run marked [purple] fuel.

Your right any marked farm plate truck can run purple diesel as long as it is being used for farm use.

Summitric its seems like your well informed on this issue is the dyed purple diesel that goes out to farms/ranches and oil rigs ultra low suflur? And if not what is ford thinking saying you can't run purple fuel in there trucks I would think this would be a major loss of revenue for Ford.

i don't deal on the wholesale/bulk stations much, so i'll have to dig into it..... But from what i understood, farm vehicles are not part of the kyoto solution, so the fuel is not regulated for farm vehicles yet. I will check and confirm for you though.

I will check and confirm for you though. as a matter of fact, my service rep just called me, and now i know. Here's the facts: on road vehicles, fuels are all supposed to be ulsd(ultra low sulphur diesel)effective immediately(however, several smaller stations/distributors have not upgraded yet) by mid summer. Farm vehicles will all be mandatory by sept 1/2010 for ulsd marked diesel. Petro-canada and shell are now ulsd marked diesel, but esso not as of yet(underway though). So there you have it, straight from the manufacturers mouth.

Got ULSD last winter in the north country from Esso @ the card lock, Bulk fuel delivered out to the oilfield equipment was marked. This was from same location. I inquired with bulk supplier & they said it was the same fuel just w/dye added ???? Makes me wonder cause we are running all new waterous industrial high tec engines. I will check with some other suppliers & see what they say, Just did a seminar with Alert Systems ltd.... Going to contact them to see what they say, Then I will post.

Diesel Costs

With the ever changing price of Gas it was nice to fuel up my Diesel at Flying J yesterday at 80.1 cents a litre. Compared to my other vehicle the diesel truck has now become the "Economy" ride inthe family...who would hav thougth?????

Cheers and have a great long weekend.
80.1 cents a litre puts a big smile on my face.

When I was at Hughes last night getting propane tanks filled up the girl working there said that someone heard gas was supposed to go up another 6 cents last night or today. This is getting stupid how much more of our money does the government need.
