Re: Blown Attic Insulation

It's a pretty easy Do-It-Yourself kinda project.

I just did mine. UFA had Weathershield on sale for 12.99 a bag, and they rent the machine for 80.00 /day.

Take your square footage and divide by 18.5 and that will give you the amount of bags needed to give you R40 coverage.

Spend a few minutes in the attic and mark the trusses at 16" above drywall.

Make sure you hang some poly around the attic hatch, as there will be allot of dust.

Wear a decent quality respirator and safety glasses.

To have a company do mine would have been around 1850. It cost me around 600 and
4 hours of my time.

You bet. I can give you some info if you would like, or haven't found anyone. It's a guy I have worked with for about 10 years in Edmonton. His boss, is also a sled head. PM me if you still need someone.

Doug

Re: Blown Attic Insulation

If you buy from a retail store, you only get retail coverage out of your bag's. The ones from the blow companies, have construction size bags, and the hopper they use is about 5 times the size. So in a commercial application, you get more coverage/ sq. ft. then you ever would, doing it yourself.

Nothing wrong with doing it yourself, But I do believe, that there are something's in life worth paying for.
