Pto Side Flooding

600 XLT . THIS ENGINE HAS LESS THAN 200 K. I'V GONE THROUGH THE
CARBS IN WASH TANK 2 MANY TIMES. I'V GOT SPARK,EVEN COMPRESSION,
AND FUEL,NEW CRANK , NEW WISCO PISTONS. THIS ENGINE IDLES WELL,
BUT AT 4000 RPM IT WILL BACKFIRE THROUGH THE PTO SIDE CARB,AND
THE PIPE IS COLD, PLUG IS WET.I'V SWITCHED NUMEROUS ELECTRICAL
PARTS FROM A PERFECTLY GOOD RUNNING MACHINE BUT TOO NO AVIAL.

POSSIBLE PISTON PROBLEM? MABEY TIMING? wife says get rid of all this vintage s##t and buy pull and go !!!!!!!
ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Sled Runs Well At Full Throttle, But In The Hills This Throttle
Position Is Not Your Best Friend. Bottom End Bogs. Running 190 Jets With Kickass Fillters Here, 170 Jets In The Hills ?
Also Looking For Parts For 1969 Polaris Playmate. Rare?
Thanks

Re: Pto Side Flooding

For mid-range performance - try adjusting your needle hieght - lowering the needle will lean out the mixture at mid throttle. The needle does nothing to infkuence idle or wide open throttle but it vastly changes mid range. Some people say that the lowest neddle position is too lean and it is better to go to a different needle size. I am not sure if the needle sizes and/ or positons are different on MAG side vs PTO side on a Polaris - might have to consult a factory manual . I also had a case that the choke plunger was not seated properly on one carb ( after a rebuild ) and it was cracked open a little and flooded the cylinder and caused bog. It was hard to detect since the other cylinder was working ok

Re: Pto Side Flooding

Is your 600 XLT a triple ? I recall a guy that also had a Polaris 600 triple and he eventually jetted each cylinder differently. His sled was slightly modified for the mountains (pipes, K &N and light wieght trailing arms ) and he played with the jets to get all clyinders the correct plug color and piston wash. I don't understand it ( why each cylinder was different ) but I know he played arround with the jetting. I think the PTO cylinder was the richest jet ( which is ass backwards from your prolbem ) .

Sorry for the grief - Good luck Ponyboy
