clutch puller

I need to add weights to my primary clutch on the XP. Does anyone have a clutch puller I could borrow for a day or two? or if someone wants to do theirs at the same time I could bring it there or you could come over here.

Re: clutch puller

Where did you get the weights and how much were they. I have never done anything with clutches before, but I know that I need to change my weights, because I am running setting #1 and pulling 8350rpm at 6500ft.

Re: clutch puller

You can get a clutch puller from your local ski doo dealer and the good ones are only like $40-50 i beleive.. Well worth it.. Then as long as you have threaded pins in your primary clutch all's you need to buy is the appropriate set screws from your daeler or a shop like specialty sleds.. For every 1gram of weight you put into the arm it will bring rpm down about 200rpm. That is 1 gram in each arm... You should check out the quick clickers on specialtysleds,com.. They are the easiest way to adjust your clutch clicker position. If you have all stock clutching in your XP there are better set-upsd available.. Call specialty sleds for more info..

I`m surprise you haven`t blown a belt Yet! The weights are just set screws, if you go to a dealership they`ll sell you what you need or you can go to a bolt store and get them for 1/10th the price. Stock in the 154" are M6 X 12mm. I went into Martin in the west end and talk to jerry and told him my symptons and he suggested another 12mm. I`m going to try and see what happens. when i go to the hills I`m going to buy a few different set to take with me and shange them if I need too. If not it won`t break my bank account for a few set screws. I`m running on clicker number two and pulling just over the 8150 rpms(up to 8350 ) that BRP suggest is max. Also my primary has black marks from the belt slipping.

The clutch puller from the dealer is $59.99. I got one on order because no one on here had one to loan me, I know when I have the setup right I won`t need it again so it`ll get lost in the garage somewhere. I talked with the dealer today and the puller is the same as the `07`s.

if you want you can come over and watch or help me and see what you need to do or bring your sled and do yours at the same time. I`ll post up when i get the puller, suppose to be here in a few days. If its here by fri-Sat I`ll work on it this sunday. Going to the hill next weekend

Re: clutch puller

I pick up my puller this afternoon and couldn`t wait to pull the primary off. I glad I did because the levers they were sticking real bad. I took the clutch all apart and cleaned everything. the inside was black from who knows what. I put in the additional weights and put it back together. When I tip it over I could here the levers moving which is a good sound. Now that I have the puller I think I`ll pull it apart after two or three good rides and clean it again...not hard now that I know what I`m doing, lol. If anyone hasn`t clean the primary and have a few hundred miles on their XP, I would suggest to pull it and check it.

Re: clutch puller

Is there a book on how to do clutch work? I have decided that I need to learn how to do my own clutch work. But never have had one apart. Or if anyone knows of a web site that walks ya trough it would be helpful?

I`m sure there is a book out there somewhere but I don`t have one. I learned from watching others and looking at pictures. I`ve never had a Doo primary apart before and now that I have it isn`t hard to fix if something goes wrong. If you want some reading go to this site

Re: clutch puller

Go to your dealer, and ask for a ski-doo race book for your year.50 bucks, and it has step by step instructions on removal, disassembly, and reassambly of every component of your sled.Or for the same money you could order a shop service manual. If they tell you these books are not available, they're lying and trying to get your sled in there service bay. These are the same books there mechanics use and are readily available from doo. They will save you tons o cash over the years,if your a doo it yourselfer

I was looking at the book for the XP and about half the book is for the SDI, and another 1/4 of the book is stuff you`ll never need. They need to put out a book for the 800, martin in the westend has one if anyone wants to have a look at it. The part counter is using one and its the same one they would sell you.
