blown motor.

the motor went on my 04 summit 800ho today in valemount. im just wondering because i set the air screws to 1.5 turns before we left...and im hoping that wasnt the problem. i havent torn it down but i dont think there is a hole because there was no metal on the plug... but it did seize afer we drove it down the mountain....so im guessing a ring just stuck and then caught something. just want to make sure the air screws wouldnt blow a motor?

Re: blown motor.

it shouldn't did you remove your HAC it should not have leaned out that much. and second how many miles are on the machine. As for your seized engine. Try to put some oil in the cylinders its a long shot but ive done it before. Sounds alot like a piston clearance problem, likely from too many miles

Re: blown motor.

yah well we bought it used and the guy said it had a rebuilt motor...but i have a feeling it was poorly done. because the other plug was a nice tan color. soo i dont think its a tuning thing

Re: blown motor.

I blew the motor in my 03 600 HO Summit about three weeks ago. When the dealer tore down the motor he found that the pin that keeps the ring from moving around on the mag side piston fell back into the piston allowing the ring to move and get caught on the exhaust port and causing it to break a chunk off the top of the piston. There was only 1200 miles on the motor, the mechanic told me that there has been a problem with the 600 & 800 ho motors with the rings. The lucky thing is that it did not do any damage to the cylinder walls or crankcase and the repairs were around $ 650. I went with jobber pistons instead of Bomardier pistons a savings of almost $300. I have a theory on why these motors seem to be failing more than they should be, I believe that the manufactures are trying to tweak these two strokes to meet emissions, noise, power and trying to keep them light weight and you can only do so much to a two stroke before things start to let loose and you start to have problems. It was not to long ago that if you had a Rotax motor you had a motor that was almost bullet proof.

Re: blown motor.

Better to go with Bombi pistons, yup there more money, but well worth it IMO! Especially if you have anything done as far as engine-intake-exhaust mods.

Re: blown motor.

Ouch!! been down that road toooooo many times, sorry to hear. Its like the loss of a family pet....well maybe a fish or something!

Cheers, and at least the re-build/teardown process usually means someone goes home in a cab....pass the vodka!!

Check out www.atelieradrienbernard.com Poppajon and i ordered cranks from there. Cost $700 and ya get $200 back if you send them your crank within 30 days. Just looked and see they have short blocks for around $2000.
