I am doing the same thing to my sled before the season starts,I would suggest spending the extra cash and buy new cables, heard bad things about extentions.Go to Gravity Worx site and check out the prices, they are fairly cheap!

X 2 for Darin (Gravity Worx)! Great guy to deal with and his stuff is top notch. Extensions can bind, search this forum back a couple pages, there is a lot of info on here already.

Gravity Worx Racing

I like my Renthal ATV high rise bars, but they are really high with an 8" rise. I'm putting the same bars on the other sled this winter but only going to a 7" riser.

Re: cable extenions?

I have the powermadd throttle extension on my sled and last year SOMETHING froze up on the ride out of Quartz at 90 kmph, I think it was just because of the extra cold with the wind at that speed for that long (took about 12 to 13 kms) of this speed before it froze up. Not 100% sure it was the extension, but from now on I am going to regularly take it apart and clean (too get any moisture out) and re grease to lessen the chances ofthis happening.

I ride with a few guys that have cable extensions, I believe Powermad might be on one or two of their sleds? So far so good?

So, what is the issue with Powermad, do they not seal and let in water? How could they be that poorly made and still make it to market when it is such an important part? Do they not have to pass some sort of gov't approved testing or something?

Re: cable extenions?

powermadd can make it in the market because they are a cheap alternative...i've seen plenty of issues with powermadd extensions....either freezing up or just plain breaking into pieces. Do it right the first time and hit up darin at gravity worx....hes does a good job and is very helpful.

Just curious.. how do the powermad extensions fail so baddly? You say they have broken into pieces in your experience? I can see freezing... but breaking into pieces? I would really like to see some proof of this if you may? I was considering their product as I want to go to a larger riser on my sled.

Scotty seriously I have seen at least 12 fail.....the plastic clam like connection holder, has a sliding common piece that the 2 ends fit in. If it runs dry it becomes sloppy and binds.if you have any snow get in it will freeze the slide...if enough moisture gets in it freezes and just expands and cracks.
You can lube it up but once water mixes with it in there it's like frozen butter..........We have tryed a Ice Fishing lube called Sub Zero and it worked good.
The other problem because your a Cat guy is the little slide is not made for AC connections...and the extension ends are not the same size as AC throttle slots

A PEZ Dispenser is better engineered

Re: cable extenions?

For me its the fact there is one extra connection in the throttle linkage. To me, this is a cable that should have the least amount of connections possible.

More connections = more chance of binding (and heavier throttle pull)

I have had two throttle sticks in my life, one off the trailer (very lucky to not have damaged anything on that one) and one ripping down the trail (good way to increase the heart rate). I do not want to repeat either scenario.

Seriously, if you try Darin's cables you will not go back to the stock cable or any other cable extension. The materials he uses make the throttle pull like nothing. My 44's pull like 28's and completely smooth.

Re: cable extenions?

well i told the guys that had broken powermadd extensions to keep them for me so i can take pictures of them and prove to people that dont believe that plastic gets brittle in really really cold conditions...however they just tossed them and bought one from darin. damn the luck

we're a little hard on equipment here in the flatlands im sure for spring riding they work great, not too cold and not much trail riding. All there is here is ditch banging and every once in awhile we can open'em up on the river
