-the winch line was totally extended or wound out and it was wound back in the opposite way ........... that can be fixed by simply pulling the line all the way out again and winding it back in the correct way; or -your winch line has become snagged somewhere in there which caused it to wrap around the opposite way.......that can be fixed by pulling the line all the way out and straightening out the snags in there.
