Tranny Problems

So i have a Honda Rancher AT 400. I am having problems with the automatic mode and reverse. Anytime i put the quad into reverse it starts flashing the esp and "--" and will not let me go. if i am in drive and put it in auto it does the same flashing but is stuck in 1st gear. i replaced the angle sensor and that did not fix the problem. there is a code that flashes 5 times quickly has a 1/2 second pause then 5 more times quickly. I have tried resetting the computer hoping that might help and it hasnt. I also tried swapping the shift motor with a known good one off of our other AT 400 and the problem still occurs. I am getting frustrated as i cant think of anything else except the clutch, which was replaced a year ago by the dealer (what a rip-off too $1000) and i dont want to sink more money into that wont fix it or is just guess work. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

5 flashes indicates ECU motor driver circuit or ECU problems. Check the motor driver wiring/conections. If that doesn't work see if there are any other codes and work through them. As a last resort try swapping a known good ECU from an AT 400.
