With a 4X4 you have limited choices. Mudlites and Bear Claws come in the appropriate sizes. Mudlites area better mud tire but you will put sticks and rocks through them. Bear Claws are ok in the mud and sand (reverse them for sand) and hold up well to rocks and sticks. We are using the Bear Claws.

I don't know anybody using these tires on a 525+lb machine. I cannot imagine a 13lb tire holding up to sticks and rocks on that heavy of a machine.

I had a 1998 Scrambler with Bear Claws on it and it worked real good. Mud Lites are also a good choice but not as tough as a Bear Claw.

Re: new tires for a 98 scrambler 400 4x4

Go with the Bear claws they are 6ply as well as 6 ply side wall, the mud lights are 6 ply and 2 ply side wall. I had the Bear claws on my 400 and there were a great tire, as for the mud lights I have them on my 500 and not very happy with them due tto them digging down to much when your stuck, then you end up burning your belt. I have gone through 3 belts in the last month due to these tires. as for that I will be going back to the bear claws!!
