CRF250R VS CRF250X (need advice)

I am looking and getting a used Honda CRF250 but i am unsure of whether to get the X or the R version. I know that the X has a wider gear ratio but i just wanted some feedback from someone with knowledge with the two models. I dont race or ride much on a track. Thank you for your help.

Re: CRF250R VS CRF250X (need advice)

I run a 250R through trails, works great. the short gear ratio's make for snappy response around corners. Very happy with the overall performance of the bike. My roomie's G\F runs a 250X she has awsome top end, and a strong mid range, to pull the same corrners as I do in 3rd she has to drop to 2nd, and is not that strong out of them. If your gona ride the piss outa the bike I would recomend the 250R, but I am a light switch ridder either on or off the fuel, If your primary concerne is not the performace the 250X would be ther better of the 2.

I am considering selling my 2005 CRF250X it is all original with like 10 maybe 12 tops tanks of fuel through it, it has bark busters other than that all stock and very clean for real not like i ride my sleds lol... all my buds have quads and with the boat and quad i never use it but I do love riding bikes.
let me know if you are interested

the X package also has electric start wich is nice in the hills, kick stand wich seems gay but is great in the hills, and lights so ya dont get grief from fish and feather cops. so if ya ride single track in the mountains X is the way to go for sure..

Re: CRF250R VS CRF250X (need advice)

I work for Honda and can tell you both bikes are good choices but it all depends what you want out of them. the "X" model is a awesome trail bike and with all the new regulations about having lights on your bike it makes it a little easier on the wallet. The "R" model is a race bike it's a high performance machine, obviously. The biggest selling point between the two models is MAINTENANCE. A CRF250R would be need a oil change every 4-5 hours(2-3 rides) where as a CRF250X your looking at every 15 hours. plus having electric start in the bush is nice! all depends what you want man! both great bikes. have fun!

I have had both the "x" and "r" and if i were to buy again the "x" would be the one. for trial riding its the best the wide ratio tranny is great and e-start is much nicer when you dump it on a hill.

Unless you ride the track mostly, i think the x is a better choice. They are both kick ass bikes. Happy roostin.

I own an 07 250x, into my 3rd season and no problems at all! I change my oil/filter, clean my air filter and use fresh 90 octane. My son rides the 150r, sometimes I wonder if I would enjoy the raw power of the 250r. I'm 51, and the X has ALOT of power! I think I'm good right here for now. D'Vin
