Post Re: Upcoming Avalanche Safety Training Courses

It is a great course , I went into it thinking , why am I taking a course that I already think I now about?? Well after 12 years of ridding in the hills I realize ( after taking the course) that I didn't know sh1t!! I got away with allot over the years , I have witnessed as well as been in a few slides , nothing fatal or nobody was buried. Now I realize had I had to use a beacon , or form a probe line , myself or my friends WOULD not survive!! This may sound crude but it is the way it is. Do yourself a favor.. take the course!! You will be VERY happy with the knowledge that you come out of it with. And for those of you that say ..." why would I spend $350 on a course , that's ridiculous!! Well I would spend $500 on it!! You drive a 60k truck drive a 14k sled and pull a 10k trailer?? So $350 is nothing . Can you put a price on your friends/family or even your own life?? I don't think so. Life always comes down to the choices we make........

Re: Upcoming Avalanche Safety Training Courses

The course numbers look quite low for the Fort Saskatchewan course, if your thinking about going, don't think, register now, Lori just called me to see if we can get the registrations up. Or I guess everyone that rides the mountains has allready taken the course.

Icon33 Re: Upcoming Avalanche Safety Training Courses

Here, I added a little fire icon...that is to light the fire under the butts of your riding group....training can't get much more convenient and inexpensive than this. We do our best to travel to interested communities, but require a good class size to keep the prices per person economical.

zgrizz, Regarding Saskatoon, I plan to return for our 3rd year to teach the AST1 classroom session and a rescue workshop on November 29th. How many are in your riding group? Please pass this date around. I expect to have 20090-2010 info up on our website by the middle of March.
We are booked in to the Heritage Inn, near Airport Way and Circle Drive, Saskatoon, SK. (We will teach in Regina on Nov 28)

One thing about avalanche classes on years with dangerous snowpacks.... the snowpits sure are interesting. It has been a great learning experience to view the January Rockies snowpack all the way from Fernie north to the Kakwa. Our students have had the opportunity to view almost every conceivable instability this season.

If you are sitting on the fence...what are you waiting for? If you think an avalanche course costs a lot, consider what an accident could cost you.

Once you think about it in these terms it really is hard to put off.
I know, I know, loads of you have a ton of mountain experience. PLEASE, recognize that mountain experience does not equal avalanche experience.

Check out this article on our website. ZacsTracs: But they were experienced... Feedback welcome.

Let's say...even if you only learned one thing (and trust me, you will learn a hell of a lot more than one thing!) that could make the difference between your friend living or dieing, wouldn't that be worth the investment?
