Skidoo handgrip warmer switch

I was In McBride 2 weeks ago and riding up the trail to Renshaw, my sled was very sluggish and would only go to 5000 rpm, almost like a frozen fuel line.. I stopped and pulled over when I turned my sled off my RPM stayed at 5000 RPM even though my engine was off. My buddie Dave noticed this. He said to turn my thumb warmer off, I did and It was fine no problems, when my thumb warmer is on low the sled screws up, no lights or gauges. Must be shorted out.. The repair seems expensive ( a new switch $250 ) so I decided to change up the complete bars and switches to the XRS that is only $50 more.

Just a tip if this happens to you..

Handlebar Change over

I ended up giving the handlebar change over to Jarrid at Absolute Power in St.Albert. He ran into some problems with the RER as the new switch is only 2 wires the old was 3 wires. But he figured it out. We decided to go to Fly handlebars as the factory skidoo bars I bought are quite thin and there was one there that was allready bent. The heated grips are wired into one, either both hot or both warm..

I just did some fly snowx bars with 9.25 mahler risers. Make sure if you havent done, to put heat tape on the bars before your handwarmes. The aluminum bars will take away allot of the heat from the grips. I also move my left hand controls down in between the risers so I dont have to worry about hitting that RER button. I wired my grips to hot.The orange wire is hot the orange/purple is warm and of coarse black is ground.

Re: Skidoo handgrip warmer switch

Ron, about this problem, i had this exact same problem last season on my old 06 summit 800. What happened was i had an electric start and the starter gear got stripped so i ripped the gear out and threw the battery out aswell.. a few rides later, my sled was doing what your was or is doing. The problem was actually a short and know i had to keep the battery attached and i dont even use the starter. Other fix is to attach to a ground. But in your case it sounds like you got it figured out. This is to help others with this same problem
