thermostat

do you need to run a termostat in a inbourd motor, my temp was jumping up and down yesterday, pulled the termo out hooked it up to the hose and temp stayed low is it all right to run like that

Buy in board you mean V6 or V8, If so you should have a thermo in, as most motors should run best around 160 -180. Sounds like your old thermo was sticking if you temp was so eratic.
