Re: 2009 Polaris sportsman 800 x2...any issues?

I have a 09 X2 500 and a 09XP 850. I like the X2 it has mechanically more durable than the XP, which has had a bunch of front end issues. I have had 2 electrical issues with the X2, one where the wires cross the rad to the ECM, polaris had them rubbing on the edge of the rad and they wore thru tripping a code. The other issue was the headlight pod, the wires broke coming out of the harness from turning the handlebars, I have 1100 kilometers on the X2, with 26 in mudlite XTR's on it, has enough power for them. Things I don't like about the X2?
Negatives
1: factory tires puncture easily, probably a problem with all stock tires
2 :Its a bit of wrestle to steer for me, but I have a bad shoulder and am used to the EPS on my 850
3: Low mount postition for the radiator, you have to keep it CLEAN, and take the fan off occasionally to make sure its not plugged
4: Finish scuffs easily, because its unpainted plastic at least on mine, its green.
5:No 4x4 in reverse unless you hold the overide button down, my XP has 4x4 all the time
Positives:
Super reliable, no wear on the front end so far, unlike my XP
Actually has a tight turning radius, sharper than the XP
Very stable, climbs really well, I dont have to worry about my wife flipping it
because of the longer wheelbase
Has "turf" mode, that makes a difference When turning
If I were to buy another one I'd go for the 800 over the 500, especially after driving my 850, I lke extra power BTW the ride isnt even close to the XP, the XP feels like its floating, feels really weird jumping from one machine to the next! Would I buy another one, YES.
Would I recomend buying a XP, No unless your mechanically inclined and dont mind putting a few hundred a year in pars for brakes, tie rod ends, ball joints,A arm bushings and last but not least steering knuckles. Hope you like your new machine!

Re: 2009 Polaris sportsman 800 x2...any issues?

Thanks guys, I did look it up at PSN but there was only one review of that specific model...at least it was a positive one. I don't know atv's all that well, but I had heard there were recalls on some 09 models but I don't know any more specific info. I do have one issue already, and that is a 'clicking' sound when accelerating and turning (with turf mode on or off). If I had to guess, I'm thinking drive train issue/knuckle- any thoughts?. Not too worried at this point, I'll be taking it in to get it looked at tomorrow (that's what warranty's for-I know that much!). I'm just trying to get a jump on 'knowing' my machine. I do like the fact that she's a bit of a bruiser in terms of sheer size and power but that's what I was looking for!.
