Re: 2008 honda Rubicon problem!

I had the same problem on my 2006 Foreman/Rubicon 500. Initially, the concern was intermittent. For a while, all I had to do was cycle the key off, then back on and it would work fine. However, a couple weeks ago the condition became a hard fault and had to be taken in.

I did some research and found that this is a somewhat common problem. My dealer first found that one of the shift solenoids on the trans was sticking and they unfroze it. Once that repair was performed, it seemed to be working again, but when I got it home and took it off the trailer, the concern was back. Just as you described, D1-D2-ESP flashing.

After taking it back a second time, my dealer contacted Honda Tech support and they suggested an Angle Sensor (which I also suggested initially . After the Angle Sensor was replaced, the machine was back to running perfectly. I took it for a nice long test ride in the hills of upper Michigan with no troubles whatsoever.

I'm pretty sure that some of those Angle Sensors were crap. Anyway, all-in-all it cost me about $200 out the door (the second time) parts and labor. Angle sensors seem to be the most common cause of this issue. I'd hang one in and try it.

Good luck!
