2007 honda rancher 420 ticking

we were out riding the brule lake sand dunes the past weekend, and one of our 420s oil temp light was on but whent unnoticed. we ran it for another couple of hours until we realized, and now there is a noticable ticking coming from the motor. does anyone know if the two are related or what the problem may be?

Re: 2007 honda rancher 420 ticking

so we took it into the shop, and it turns out that the ticking is being caused by a loose fitting at the head where the exhaust goes in.

Re: 2007 honda rancher 420 ticking

there is a guy just off ellerslie road in edmonton that we take our machines to. he does really great work and is very knowledgable. unlike taking your quad to honda and waiting a couple of weeks to get it back sometimes, this guy wastes no time in getting your quad back into tip top shape. I think the name of his company is road hogs.

Re: 2007 honda rancher 420 ticking

does your 350 have aftermarket exhaust? that was the problem with the 420, when we took it to honda to get them to put it on, the didnt get it on right ot the head. we reasearched the ticking a bit too, and it seems like alot of hondas do it. some people say that one of their vave adjustment screws was broken and that caused it.

Re: 2007 honda rancher 420 ticking

Apparently if it is ticking it is probably the valves that need adjusting, mine does that periodically.

Re: 2007 honda rancher 420 ticking

well it turned out to be the brass o-ring for the exhaust. had the valves set and still ticket. took exhaust off and theres a brass ring between head pipe and exhaust port.the brass ring had split.
