Railline caboose and train station pics etc.

Took the stepson out for a nice little ( 100km ) ride today, did the Suanders area, Alexo, Harlech, Shunda, Nordegg, Mt. Baldy etc. etc.
Lucked out and missed the rain storms of the day, mostly enjoyed sunshine, here's a few pics.

Belive it or not that was my first time seeing the train station area as well, it is located in the Nordegg area, but you sort of need to know how to find it. I think they want to keep most people out of that area becuase of the historical value of the stuff there, and the possibility of damage etc. to it.

Re: Railline caboose and train station pics etc.

I'm not sure if you need permission to go in that area or not (as you can just walk in, only a few min. off the main rd). However it may well be inside the "keep out" area, so asking would be advisable.

Yes all the ice inside the concrete tunnel at Suanders is gone.

Re: Railline caboose and train station pics etc.

Great pictures luv old buildings and trains, my son has always liked trains from a little boy. Two years ago we were coming back from a southern Alberta race and came back through Hanna....he was driving and yells out hey look at that, he had spotted an old round house......we spent the next two hours wandering around the place. There was a turntable out side and the scales were still there....it was a fun afternoon...thought he'd let go of the train thing but it's still there...

Re: Railline caboose and train station pics etc.

I am not totally sure where you where Hadster??? once you go over the third tressle (west) you are in the National Historic Park,,,,,,, Not sure what a fine is for going in a NHP with a quad ,,,,,,, but not going to find out myself....... Not signed I don't think. Was told this by the County a few years back when seeing if we could do ATV Tours to the Minesite.

Let's Get Dirty,,,,, In the Mud!!!
That is why IF you go in , YOU PARK THE QUAD AND WALK, it's only a few minutes in on foot!! Yes it is west of the 3rd trestle ( by the way no one is allowed to quad or bike across that 3rd trestle!!!). If you are not sure the 3rd one is the one with all the tracks still in place, DO NOT CROSS IT with any machine or face fines~!!!! But yes you are right in that area i did not see any signs telling you to keep out, other than a broken stop sign at the 3rd trestle.

Re: Railline caboose and train station pics etc.

That is one of the things county needs to do when the rail-line trail (or before) is up and running for rides,,,,,,,,, is sign things for tresspasing,,,,,, designated trails etc.......... I was a steward for the Kakwa Wildland Park for several years and that was the biggest beef was signage,,,,, with sledders,,, you cannot tell there is a bent over sign under 6 feet of snow,,,,,,,, and it always came down to the budget!!!! But on the final year I was up in the kakwa they did put up new signs along the meadows on the AB side. But it still didnt stop some from riding past the signs to take a dump in the bushes

Wow i did not know that was there, great pic's. I think there is another one like that in Big Valley, i'm sure i seen one like that on a tour we went on (the old steam train ride from Settler to Big Valley and back). On the tour we did not have time to go over and check it out.

When you talked of the caboose \i thought you meant the one at Chambers Creek area..riding for years out west and have never seen this one..interesting.. we used to dirt bike from the powerline and over to the mine before it became a Historic site..hoping things go well with the rail-line trail to Nordegg, but is gonna take awhile...
