![]() | Re: race fuel vs av gas Av Gas is ok in a two stroke. It is hard on valves in a four stroke. A blend of racing fuel and pump gas is a popular solution. For more information visit www.vpracingfuels.com. VP fuel is available in Hinton at Hinton ATV Repair.

![]() | Re: race fuel vs av gas If im right,AV fuel is the same but for AV to be called AV fuel it has to be at a minmuim octane.where as race fuel goes from 92 octane all the way up to 110 octane i think...![]()

![]() | Re: race fuel vs av gas Thanks guys for your response. I'm just contempleting turboing my M. What's race fuel going for per L. Have read that AV gas is only about 30-40 cents higher than prem? I did a little research after starting this thread & found that av gas is designed to be used in engines that run between 1800-2800 rpm @ 10000 ft +. Hey TwinTurbo what r u running for go juice, & whats it worth?

![]() | Re: race fuel vs av gas A close guess would be in the $3.00/l range for VP fuels.

Race fuel meets certain specs where AV gas can run for one octane to another. Its like when you go to buy it. AV A gas is 100-111 OCT. So its close to being around 105-106 OCT. Some thing like that. Thats just what i have been told.(Buddy is a fuel man at the airport)

![]() | Re: race fuel vs av gas I hear alot of guys adding race fuel into thier tanks I have always been curious to see actual dyno runs on pump gas to race fuel, I agree that it is a positive to run race fuel in sleds that the compression ratio has been increased however in a stock sled putting race fuel in would actually be removing horsepower. Octane is a fuels resistance to burn so race fuel combusts at a higher temp. so if an engine is designed to run at 91 octane and you put 110 octane in it will be an incomplete burn. It's just my theory but I am a mechanic so I do have a pretty good understanding of an engine. a turbo or high compression heads do change what octane should be used but I see alot of guys on the mountain mixing race fuel into thier mainly stock sleds. If anyone has checked this on a dyno I would be very interested to see the results! |

![]() | Re: race fuel vs av gas Everyone is missing one point. Lead. Avgas has a high lead content (equivalent to the old leaded pump gasoline, but higher), and is consistently 100 octane. The lead runs cooler, but is prone to fouling plugs or deposits on valves, if run at too low temps. (I'm a aircraft mechanic, and know first hand) The old avgas used to be higher lead, but now all avgas is called 100LL (low lead) |
