Best Race fuel for boosted engines

First off what is the motor octane rating for vp111? doesn't show vp 111 on their website.

secondly what is everybodies opinion on the best race fuel to use on a boosted 2 stroke? leaded/unleaded, i need 110 motor to run max of 12 lbs boost and then i need more octane to run upwards of 15-16 lbs boost... just curious as to what everybody thinks? VP website says which fuels are for naturally aspirated and which are for blown or boosted... just curious if this is a big factor or if the naturally aspirated fuels will work fine with a boosted sled as long as it has enough octane?

Thanks,
Ryan

Re: Best Race fuel for boosted engines

From what i have previously dug up Vp111 is same fuel as Vp110 but blended for cold starts so motor octane is 107, this is what I run in my Apex and works good no cold start problems even when running straight race. If you were to run C14 that would be your minimum for motor octane by the looks of your post. Leaded fuels are suppose to help prevent detonation by burning cooler and in my mind is a plus, but have yet to see long term effects on valves ect on 4 stroke.

so you say i need c14 for 10 lbs and a high grade fuel for my 15-16 lbs boost

Re: Best Race fuel for boosted engines

You said I need 110 motor octane to run 12 pounds and is that at sea level? Check out the totallyamaha.com website and under four stroke and turbos and superchargers forum they have a boost calculator. The more elevation your at the less octane you need, the more boost the more octane, compression ration is also big factor less CR less octane with head shims or pistons. This would be just a general guide as it's built to calculate 1000cc four strokes but you get the idea. Where did your get the 110 motor number?

Specialty Sleds in Edmonton carries VP. Sunoco is one of the best race fuels you can buy, unfortunately I don't know if there is a local dealer in AB.

Octane # is the fuels resistance to detonation. Leaded or oxygenated fuels will burn more uniform and require more energy to ignite (compression, ignition, etc). They are not as susceptible to pre-ignition from hot spots in the cylinder and piston (pinging) which means they burn as a more complete combustion process. There are some heat transfer/atomization/vapour pressure discussions you can get into, but they are really not needed to understand what your motor needs. Just find the right octane and ride!
