07 Rhino 660

Just picked this up today and and am a little strapped for cash for the mods at the moment. But asking advice on which mod I should do first, clutch, cdi, etc? I don't need to go crazy insane cause its also ment for my wife as well.

Tires are 26" mud lites, might have a slipped belt, makes a little blurp when you let off and it idles down. Need to turn the stiffness up on the struts they are cranked right down.

Also whats the deal with the fan under the passenger seat r/h side of engine. Its open, but looks like it has a tube running to the back?

Thanks

Re: 07 Rhino 660

I'd do this in order:

1) CDI, also get rid of the painful reverse rev limiter so you can actually back up in mud.
2) Uni air filter
3) jet carb
4) exhaust tip
5) clutch kit

The fan is to blow air back to cool the rubber mounts for the pipe etc. If you ever plan on going through water that could possibly be deep enough to hit the fan, pull it off. If water's deep enough to get into the fan it puts to much drag on the motor and it'll kill it, and you may not be able to start it until you get on dry land.

Re: 07 Rhino 660

Thanks,.. I don't really plan on going all out extreme, but will be eventually adding a custom built roll cage and rear seat. I thought maybe doing the clutch then CDI would be my best choices for now,..

I talked to Rob at The Mod Shop in Bezanson and he said he could machine my sheave for me.

How much did Rob quote you for the machining?

Be careful with the CDI. I recently heard someone put on a CDI and pinned it and blow the top section on the motor because the CDI makes the RPM's go over red line.

Re: 07 Rhino 660

I think I am going to try the Coop45 mod of moving the washer under the primary nut to the inside of the sheaves and throw a new belt on. Also looking at the CDI only to remove the reverse limiter which really sucks,. tested it out yesterday playing around in the mud and snow and wasn't impressed.

Might get the sheave machined later on to gain back some top end.

Re: 07 Rhino 660

You can bypass the reverse limiter without the CDI. My older BRP CDI doesn't have that feature so I just have it on a toggle switch. I'd do the CDI before the sheave, also check Ebay for sheaves, I've seen them go pretty cheap on there before.
How often are you going to be running over 40-50 MPH?

Re: 07 Rhino 660

I pulled my primary today to have a look, OMFG is there enough grease in there from factory. I can't believe the mess, and so I will be changing the belt after 1100km cause with the little bit of grease on it, it will just wreck the primary sheaves even more than they already are.

Not a good idea on the washer, looks too close for me, better off finding 2 separate smaller washers and doing it that way.

I have decided to not do the sheave for now, just waiting to hear back from a retailer on a CDI and looking for info on grounding a green wire to remove the reverse limiter.

Re: 07 Rhino 660

I think I've got the instructions for bypassing the reverse limiter somewhere if you can't find it. Take a look at Hunterworks CDI's Yamaha Rhino Performance Accessories Polaris RZR 800 Accessories Kawasaki Teryx Arctic Cat Prowler Yamaha Rhino Accessories - Yamaha Rhino 660 Tri-Fire Plus CDI

Re: 07 Rhino 660

Thanks, that's the one I am looking at,.. sent a email to Todd @ Hunterworks on Thursday about shipping VIA USPS instead of UPS and he still hasn't gotten back to me. Oh well, kind of glad anyhow cause I found the instructions to ground the green w/white tracer last night and going to be doing it today. So I might put the CDI off for now,.. I don't really need to go fast cause when I do I normally get hurt, I am just happy that I can lose the reverse limit.
