Re: Dirt bike laws???

You are technically supposed to have front and rear lights visible from 150 meters or so (not sure on the exact distance) and a spark arrested exhaust. You can get away with a mounted flashlight and led rear bicycle light, but they are more concerned with insurance and registration.

I believe the fine is around the $250 mark

Re: Dirt bike laws???

I bought a mountain bike set up that ran on batteries, fish cop didn't give it a second look when I was checked. They are mostly more concerned with insurance/registration.

Re: Dirt bike laws???

yes you do need a headlight and tail light that can light up an object 200 ft away as well as a spark arrestor (i have never been checked for the arrestor in 10 plus years )
i have been told by some srd and fish cops that mountain bike lights are ok to use and some say it is not ok it really depends on the officer i guess
also your licence plate must be attached to the bike and visible from the front or the rear
a friend of mine got a ticket for having his plate zip tied to the back of his chest protector (50or 75 dollar ticket)

Re: Dirt bike laws???

I almost hate to say it, but since I got a bike with lights and a plate, the SRD guys are actually really friendly guys to talk with. The rules say you need a front and tail light visible from 60m.

Re: Dirt bike laws???

You'll never notice the power drain from a light on your bike, just like most riders will never use ( or can use ), the power from most aftermarket, noisier exhaust systems. The requirement for a light is not so you can ride at 3 in the morning, it's so oncoming riders can see you earlier in the dust, fog or low light areas ( thick spruce ) & hopefully not have to drag your ass out of some back water because you had a head on.
As far as outrunning SRD, fish cops, the county mountie ,etc, thats a really good idea. Nothing like going to a land use meeting trying to keep riding areas open for the folks that actually obey some of laws and then hearing about the three or four pinheads that are doing stuff like.............outrunning the cops. It make it so much easier to argue why we should be allowed to ride dirt bikes, quads, UTV's etc.
One last thing, what ever happened to basic english and grammer skills?

Grammar, for the record.

To me paying up on the registration for $70 or whatever is worth it to not get sent home from one day of riding, nevermind the fine.
