Fuel cap

Are fuel caps vented or are the tanks vented? Long story short, I lost my fuel cap in Golden and dealer didn't have one, but they said the oil cap was the same thread so I bought one so I could ride. Will this cause air lock or is the tank vented elsewhere.

Re: Fuel cap

Tank must be vented elsewhere. I've gone from warm garage to cold outside with 1/2 full gas tank, when gas cooled off tank sides collapsed, went back to normal when I opened gas cap

Re: Fuel cap

depending on how long it is upside down I have had some gas leak out. I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't vapour lock at the wrong time!

Re: Fuel cap

The oil tanks and fuel tankes are vented and not through the caps

BINGO!! we have a winner. Once and a while the little vent/checkvalve will get plugged up with mud and you will vapour lock but other than that cap don't have to vent.
