on the weekend we took my friends new to him 2004 cummins to the mountains. our cruising speed was about 120km/h. hauling 3 sleds 3 people and a trailer we got about 650km/tank. the truck was raeding 15.1mpg @ 2100rpm

my issue is that it seemed to me the truck did not need to be at 2100rpm to get the power to push us at 120km/h. what kind of modifications can be done to lower the cruising rpm for better economy? all i can think of is to run a larger tire?

also the truck would hold speed going up hill no problem at 110-120km/h. but you could put the pedal to the floor and it would not shift down? seems to me on the powerstroke if you are cruising and need to speed up it will shift down and pull away. is this something that a exhaust/intake/programmer would make up for on a cummins?

Ok,

So this winter I may be buying a trailer because my 2009 Taco has a 5' box. In previous years I rocked the sled in the box of a Dakota with 3-4' overhang. Hey, it worked actually quite well =)

What would you guys recommend? Can I get away with not having trialer brakes? (<2000 lbs).

I know some people say the Tacoma's pull well, but I must have something wrong with mine because it's not great on power. Love the truck, but I know the difference between it and a deisel.

Also, if I were to go with a flat deck, would a 6.5'x12' deck fit two sleds? (one forward and one reverse?). I've fit two sleds in a 16' enclosed and it was tight so that leads me to think I need 16' of length, or more width.

Thanks guys,

Hello all, I just want to send a much deserved accolade to Deryl at XSYOURRIDE and is long overdue. In the spring I contacted him to install a set of airbags on my truck. Not knowing which air bag system to go with Deryl suggested firestone. Deryl did the install himself and I will say this he is one meticulous man. Was a true professional job and I would not hesitate to call him for any install. Since the install Deryl has followed up a couple of times making sure everything has been working properly. I went on a family vacation all through B.C. and carry a camper near 5,000 lbs and pulled a small boat. To this day nearing 8 months later the airbags never left me down nor did the system ever fail me. Once again Deryl thank you for a job well done and thank you very much.

Regards,

Tom

So I'm looking into a Diesel, and it will likely be an F250 or 350. I've driven my buddies '10, F250 down to Boise where we picked up our new trailer. He has air bags to bring up the back end, and it was so/so for handling.
I don't pull every day of the week and this will be a daily driver for me, mainly pavement, so I'm wondering how a 350 would handle in the city vs a 250 due to the difference in suspension, anyone w/experience in the two?
Just seems there are more 350's out there because of what the dealers brought in. ($800 difference)
Let the debate begin.....................

So I'm planning on replacing my 35" toyo MT with some 265/70/17 for the winter, and also removing my lift in favor of a somewhat lowered look, similar to a chev 2wd 1/2 ton.

I haven't weighed the tires but I think the 265's ( toyo M55 ) have to weigh at least 20# lighter per tire. Plus they're about 2" narrower and 3" shorter.

Anyone think I can gain 3 mpg out of this? Maybe I'll have to remove the lift as well to push less air for the full benefit.

Haha right now I have to go 145 kph to get up to 2000 rpm in 6th.

EDIT: Truck is an LBZ Duramax CCSB, currently I get about 15 USMPG mixed driving.
