Hardkore it is great to see the safety netting, toilets and that the garbage was being taken care of. Hats off to you guys for getting insurance and running the event properly. Nice to see the manufacturers supporting the event also. I know all about the aftermath that goes with an event like this when it isn`t done right. You guys did a great job getting it all together, doing it right and looking after the masses. I wasn`t able to attend but I still appreciate all of your groups hard work.
Donating the monies to support snowmobiling is huge too, people don`t realize just how hard the game has got.
How many people showed up?
Who got to drop the flag, is that Nick in the pic.?

Re: BDSO 2008 is in the HISTORY Books

I mean we got hurt as organizers. Every year the weather has been great, the drags and hillclimb go off without a hitch. Last year was such a high and this year from our point of view it was a low, real low.

The weather screwed us, we had to cancel the hillclimbs which is the meat and potatoes of the BDSO,we had pricing problems with the hotel of choice and had to change last minute, and finally we got screwed once again with the grooming.

Thats what I meant buy getting stung. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for the kind words. I must say watching a porta pottie being dropped on a glacier was a first and it got used so it was well worth it getting it there. With the winds as high as they were it was all over the place as was the heli trying to set it down. The pilot was good. This was our first year with sponsors and it was cool to have all the 2009 in one sspot to check out and test .Not that I had time but I hope others did even in the arctic chill.

There are always bad years with events like this. You work and plan and organize as best you can, then something totally out of your control ruins the whole thing. All you can do is learn from it and do the best at what is in your control. We had to cancel a poker rally here in Whitecourt a few years ago due to lack of snow and as the chairman for the rally I felt like a failure and sort of like we were robbed but there was nothing more we could do. Sounds like you guys had things very well organized and planned & that's all you can do as volunteers. Better luck next year.
