I support the idea of the Casino as a starting point, but I also believe our mountains, outdoor aventure and our unique community will shine above, and the proposed Casino will just be another tool in getting our community and its occupants back on their feet.

I am not familiar with BC lottery laws, but in Alberta the casinos are worked mostly by non-profit groups. EX- Clamina cabin group. The members work at the casino, say the group works 500 man hours and anouther group works 400 hours a percentage of the profits for that weekend is payed to the non-profit group on a man-hour basis. Me and my wife volenteer with the Tofield Legion and the Holden Cadet group. The last casino we worked for the Legion we put in as a group about 500 hours and received $75,000 give or take a few bucks. They are a very good found raiser for any group. They are very popular fund raiser in Alberta. Due to the popularity and the profit you only get to work one about every 30-36 months. it would deffinitly be worth checking into. I know it does not take that many people to work 4-500 man hours over a three day weekend.

trailrider, that is a great point. I didn't even think of the club benefits. I have worked a few casinos in Alberta as well, back when they were still smoke filled (cough, cough), and they paid well. One casino replaced all the other fundraisers for the year.

but this is the time to build it.

when you have contractors begging for work rather than turning it away.

that way when its done who knows you might have ended up with an underbuget project than origionally planned and be able to sell them in a new boosted economy a few years from now.

Well I have been building new camps and and office buildings north of FT Mack for the last three and a half years and there was a little bit of a slow down in November but it is already starting to pick back up. I had two of my jobs shut down now they are talking about starting them back up, now that oil is back over $45/barrel. I hope they wait a while I get to go home on sunday with no return trip planed. I have noticed people around Edmonton pinching pennies but there is not much of that going on up north. so hopefully ther will be lots of investers for that new project. Who knows the company that I run jobs for might even get the contract to build it.

They believe the have the parking issue solved by making it an uncovered area with bigger access points. I am just waiting to see what the final prices will be for each floor plan to decide if I am in or not.

Definitely needed for the towns sake, but I suspect $300K for a condo in Valemount is going to be a tough sell.

yes and no. i think trades people and anyone directly tied to oil and whatnot might hold off. but you have your dentists and doctors annd so on that have money burning holes in their pockets right now!!
