Re: Any thoughts What this may be?

Hey Catmando, Just heard from my brother. What we (he) fixed on my quad was an inboard cv joint. The dealer could not find the problem. My brother spent alot of time with the quad up on blocks checking everything he could find. The noise was only apparent under load when starting out, after moving the noise would go away. It was a clicking noise. Hope this helps.

Badly frayed belt? Chunk missing?
This is my best guess awell. Hopefully it isn't too much of a pain to get at.

when you had the cover off did you manually try to pull the belt around or turn the clutches, to make sure you didn't hear the clunking in there???

Thats too bad.. I guess?? Maybe a good thing. I'm suprised, thought for sure the belt would be the culprit. Keep us posted... hopefully it is nothing major or maybe even nothing at all. Could it be a broken valve spring?... valve clicken in the head? Hope not.

does it only make the noises when there is weight on the wheels? or did it make the noise when you had it jacked up and the covers off as well?

Re: Any thoughts What this may be?

Catmando your not going to like this but that ticking noise is coming from a bearing in the motor. I was out quadding today with a group of people from the Wildwood area and 2 of them have prowlers. Got chatting and mentioned the clicking noise that you described and the fella said he just had to fix his a couple weeks ago for the same thing. Its a bearing in the secondary transmission assembly. One of the bearings sees alot of side loading from the torgue on the shaft which prematurely wears the bearing out. If not caught in time and fixed it can go from a $2600 job to a new motor....$6600. Check out this website and it'll give you an exploded view of your unit. Alpha Sports - Arctic Cat ATV Catalog
