Hey guys. I’m looking for some info on the work channel. How’s the road into it. Hearing all kinds of story’s but looking for some recent first hand experience. Thinking about taking a poke there this summer. Any info shared is appreciated.

Thanks
Chadd.

We went to Rupert last year for fishing. Road is in excellent shape I thought. Better than out best roads here. Caught only one salmon. A very tough year last year.

Parking can be a issue during coho season, especially on the weekends. Saw 3 guys from Alberta up on the rocks last year, keep in mind the tide moves extremely fast through there. Also everyone is waiting for a June 1st decision to see if fishing is going to be shut down all together.

Thanks for the reply guys. I’m thinking salmon will be on the short list this year with looming closures. Maybe do some bottom fishing and exploring or site seeing. I wonder what shape the work channel rd is in off hwy 16. Take the shortcut.

I heard werk channel rd is in good shape, as far as fishing goes I work with a fishing guide and coho is cut in half for catching and my understanding is Hali is 1 possession over 90 but under 119 I think or 2 under 90. I think he said it’s 119 but I’m not 100% positive. I can find out what kind of shape the rd is in, it’s the company I work for that usually maintains it.

Thanks guys. Im rolling with the family so the fishing isn’t going to be to hardcore. Maybe throw a couple crab and prawn pots over. Do some fish trapping and touring around. I can sit in a boat for hours fishing. My kids aren’t at that age yet.

Regs read differently, 1 possession over 90-126 or 2 possession under 90

It is in my opinion that Halibut fishing should be banned for a few years.
I have been fishing the coast line my whole life and the depletion of the specie is very regrettable, at this rate i doubt there will be future Halibut fishing for anyone.
We use to fish Halibut along the coast from Victoria and any where along the islands and the island, including inlets. Now your lucky to even catch a chicken size around Campbell River. We're having to travel as far as Port Hardy, even go around Cape Scott for any good Halibut. I've even put in at Winter Harbour on the north west side of the island and Halibut was touch and go. That was not the case not so long ago.

I'm one of many other's that have stopped fishing for Halibut and is pushing the government for a full ban on this specie. At this rate Prince Rupert will be in the same boat with Halibut.

i would agree with you as long as it’s a full ban for everyone no matter what your skin colour is.

The long liner commercial boats is what cleans them out. IMO
A few that sport folks catch I think would be fine but agree with a hold off on them for a few years sure wouldn’t hurt for sure?

I agree 100%, any ban would have to apply to every one and every group.
I have seen over the years plenty of guilty parties being greedy and it was not just one or two groups of people. I've seen Natives over fishing quoting their native rights, Chinese keeping anything and everything they pull up with complete disregard of regulation's and season's and white so called good people (BS) fill their freezers that they bring and set up, even set up for canning at their camp. ILLEGAL BTW.
Been out plenty of times fishing and seeing American's fishing in our water's, filling their cooler's and live well's then sneaking back, even switching the flag on their boat...
