My wife is planned to be at a 2 week long training camp with a couple of our horses. She thinks it is a good idea for me to follow along on my days off and haul the boat out to BC as well. She trains and rides horses all day I go fishing. Sounds suspect I know but I figure what the hell and I will do some research on the area. Lots of time to plan as the camp is end of August. I have zero clue on where for what and how. If I can get the where and what half the fun is figuring out the how.

I could stay home and camp on the NSR while she is away too. Information please. Boat is a Thunderjet Bulldog if rivers are the thing.

Thanks

Merritt offer's some of the very best fishing in all of BC hands down. It is world renowned for its trophy fly fishing of Rainbow and Kamloop trout.
I have personally caught large rainbow's on the fly, including my son who landed one exceeding 10lbs. The area has many mountain lakes that are well feed with shrimp.
If your into fishing i highly recommend it, if your into fly fishing, Merritt is like Revy for sledders.
The Jet boat could only be used on the Thompson River or Fraser. Or you could use it on Kamloop's lake but nothing in the Merritt area that i can think of. Basically the majority of the lakes are power restricted or no gas motor allowed and there are a lot of lakes there. So if your wanting to truck the jet boat you would have to truck it around to the Fraser or Thompson or Kamloops.
Fishing in a big boat in those areas is usually slow in August and fly fishing the mountain lakes is far more productive and fun. Depending on how early or late you are in August, the salmon might not be there yet or might just be coming in.

In Merritt you would be able to use your jet boat at Nichola lake and it is a fairly large lake. Salmon run normally opens end of august and you can fish Kamloops lake and mouth of the Thompson river just as it comes out of Lake. Kamloops is only a 40min drive from Merritt. Lots of great trout fishing in the mountains but most lake are 10hp rated or electric only. May also want to look up fishing up at Douglas lake ranch as some throphy fishing. A lot of the other mountain lakes have rainbows up to 10lb as well. Just need to know which ones.
