Ok so I have been shopping since the fall and am getting close to buying, maybe tomorrow or monday. In my price range I am looking at 08's, KTM and 200,250 or 300 2 stroke or 450-500 4 stroke. Must have electric start. I would prefer a xcw but have found others like a 450 sx. Is there anything to stay away from like certain years with certain issues? Or certain bikes? I won't be using it on the track. Just woods and dunes. Sand, dirt and mud.

I have a 08 250 xc and love it. The bike will climb any hill I point at at as long as I can stay on. Has tons of power and is great on the trails.

I agree, the electric start is nice, it has saved me when I crashed and wrecked my knee. If I didn't have it, I never would have been able to kick the bike over.

I have been on a buddy's 450 that I can't start. Have to get his son to start it for me all the time. I like the power but if it is a big 4 stroke I have to have the e start. 2 stroke 250 and 4 stroke 300/250 I am good to kick it but why if I don't have to.

Headlight would be nice too. I agree with the kickstand. If I end up with a sx a kickstand will be put on.

If you like woods don't get an sx. Suspension is to stiff and the tranny is too short. Xc-w is the best xc is ok. In your price range ktm 4 strokes are beasts. They are heavy and not fun too ride. Get a 250 or 300 2 stoke. You will love it. The new 4 strokes are great. 350 or 450 but they didn't get good until 2012.

The four speed trans in the sx had me wondering about the low and high speeds. I have been looking at a 250 xcw 2 stroke. I would like to get it a little cheaper then what the owner wants to go but might have to bite the bullet. Have to wait until monday to look at it. That is if he gets back to me on it.

The 250 is less buzzy than the 300 and you can always put the 300 top end on if you want the extra torque

Id like to take this opportunity and high jack this thread just a little. I have a 2008 KTM 250sx for sale. 2-stroke. Low hours. Engine has never been opened. New tires, chain, sprockets, grips, brakes, hand guards, some spare plastic, carbon fibre pipe protector. I hurt my shoulder on my 450 so I picked up this bike from a farm kid and rode it for a season thinking it wouldn't be such a pull on my separated shoulder. I was wrong, it hurts too. $4000 the bikes in Rocky. I can send pictures if you like.

During my last few hours of research on it I see that you can add the 300 kit. Saw it was about 800 bucks to do but I don't know if that is Canadian pricing and how old the pricing is. Nice option though.

Nope no e-start. I had my surgery December 5th so I think I'm going to start looking for a lightly used 300 as well for this summer. I too like the e-start. I'm done with track bikes. I'm too old and don't heal well any more. The 2008 450 sx had e-start. I used to have one of them too.

NOPE not gonna do it lol. I HAVE to have e start on this one. There are two reasons I got rid on my KLX 300 last fall. I wanted a little more power for playing on the hills in Brule and to get e start. Other then that it was a kick ass bike.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to sell YOU my 250...just hi-jacking your thread a little in hopes some other viewer might be interested. Lol
