Try plugging the laptop direct to your router via a cable...if the internet works, then you know that the settings are fine just the radio (wifi card) is pooched. If it does not have internet access hooked direct with a cable, then you have some setup, password issues between your router and laptop.

I think I'll nurse this one along, and probably go with a Mac next.

Should I go to the Apple store, or would a place like Staples and what not be fine???

before you switch to a mac, make sure your printer(s) are mac compatible or have it in your budget to upgrade those also. Some older printers (and by old I mean 2-3 years) are not capable of connecting to apple products. They all say you can download the airport driver but not always do-able. I have a couple year old Lexmark multi (print/fax/copy/scan) unit and they do not have a driver available so we have to email stuff from our ipad to one of our PC laptops to print. Plus, if you use MS office, check out what the mac offers and make sure you are comfortable with the use of it.

Not saying that apple products are not the way to go, but if you used to a PC....be wary of possible changes you may need to make if you go Mac

    Re: Wifi help

Having not read every word of this thread, have you made sure you haven't shut off the wifi on your laptop?

There's a button on your keyboard (sometimes requires pressing the Fn key at the same time) that has a symbol like this:

WiFi don't usually just die. There's something in there buggering up. Still, shiny new is pretty good too...

    Re: Wifi help

Definitely check that your WiFi is actually on. It can be easy to turn off without even realizing it. Once you have found the "switch" and confirm that your WiFi is actually still on, try a system restore. It sounds like you may need someone to give you a bit of a hand.

    1. Check that WiFi is on
    2. Check that you are still configured to connect to your router
    3. Try system resore
