I finally joined everyone else in the 21st century and got my first ever computer...wanted to know if anyone out there has any tips for using the macbook pro? Any cool apps?

I have Log Me In, Netflix, some antivirus one and some thing that lets me run windows stuff. Yep that's about as techy as I get.

Thought it would be kind of neat to see what other cools apps there are or downloading stuff I could get.

Get apple tv and you can put any movie, music and picture you want on your tv screen from your mac if you have a modern tv. If you are looking at editing lots of movies (and have the coin to spend (1300 bones) Final Cut Pro is a crazy app.

Final Cut Pro is $299.99 at the on-line Apple store. My new edition movies this year will be done in Final Cut Pro. I'm really looking forward to it.
That Microsoft Office is quite expensive. I bought iWorks and it was considerably cheaper and it will allow you to save in the .doc format, work with spread sheets, etc. Takes a little while to get used to things but it will come quickly.

I am not the wizard when it comes to the Macs but Macronut is quite helpful. The Apple community is also a cool place for information.

If you are a "student" office for mac is much cheaper I just got it for my nephew. I think it was $90. You need a student ID etc.

Ok...so now i have the computer and have been poking around on it a bit...question.

Where do you download music for free that's safe? What do you look for when downloading?

Also, can you take music off a cd and put it into Itunes?

To be honest with you there really isnt anything thats free that safe. Pirate bay torrents use to be really good but the feds are cracking down on that. People use limewire or similar but they are loaded with viruses and malware. You can get music off of cds onto itunes though. If i remember right you need to go to the file or edit menu in the top toolbar and select import cd. From there you can check and uncheck certain tracks. Not 100% sure on the steps to do it but i think its close. Im not by my puter right now so ill check it when i get a minute.

easiest and seems to be safest way is youtube to mp3. just google "youtube to mp3 for mac" and download the program. Go on youtube type in ANY song that you want,,,highlight the url in the address bar then drag and drop it into the mp3 program you downloaded.
i think you play it and it automatically goes into itunes, same with the cds, you just put it in the drive and a window should pop up asking if you want to burn cd to the computer, choose which songs you want and after burning they should automatically go to itunes as well
should work, i do it all the time with zero issues

oh ya when you search for a song on youtube add in the word lyrics at the end of the title, downloading those ones use way less data and theyre alot quicker since theyre a much smaller file size
