Still use Vuze. I have quit downloading movies that have not been released on DVD. I know of some people who have had notices sent to them tracked back through their IP. Anyone else have something similar happen?

A buddy got a notice like that a week ago and it hadn't even downloaded completely. Basically a notice to the provider that one of it's customers has potentially downloaded a movie illegally which he was cc'd on.
This was movie that had just hit theaters. It did not deter him much. He had only partially downloaded it and stopped it because it was taking too long.

I've gotten the emails, stop downloading for a while, then start again.

Basically in the email it suggested that "possibly someone had gained access to my network"...... I go with that ;)

I have downloaded a few hundred "torrents" from Piratebay over the last 4-5 years and I have never got a warning or bad files.
Pirate bay was shut down a few days ago but if you google it there is a new version of Pirate bay.

warning would come from your ISP (Internet Service Provider). When I get home I'll see if I still have one in my email.

mutliavchd is a good free one to use if you need avchd output for high definition files.

I second the recommendation for avstodvd.

Another useful tool to have on hand is format factory - its kind of a swiss army knife of video converters. Tons of output options and has great input compatibility with different file/codec types.
