Microsoft Security Essentials. Just works. No nagging (BUY IT NOW or download free version again though this obscure maze here...) just updates with windows update so it's not "yet another thing that wants to reboot your computer while you're working".

If you don't like yer eggs all in one basket, kapersky, avg, avast are all not bad.

From my experience (15yrs +) for home users I recommend AVG free along with malware bytes and spy or search and destroy. All free!!

And just remember to watch what email attachments or links you click on.
