no he's just on a laptop mine the same way fn+f8 turns on external screen. Another option would be to slap the Hd in another laptop, done that before, back up all you info then tada done. Oh and also have to make sure both laptops use the same kinda drive older comps used PATA hard drives new ones use sata. One more thing you could do is buy a external hard drive enclosure (cheap like $15 online) put you drive in the enclosure copy your info and then formate the hard drive and your left with a external hard drive that you can use anyway.

Amazing, all these computer savy posters and no answers.
First question? What external ports do you have on your puter.
Second question: Once first question is answered we will move onto next question.

We can either download with a memory stick with no monitor attached or we can just remove drive and hook up for download.
Remember, even if you have deleted your drive, if you give it to someone else to do this they will probably run a ghost scan to see all old files and downloads.

Be careful or scrap the puter and cut the hard drive...

youngpolarisguy how do these external hard drive enclosures work?
I see them on ebay cheap.
I ask because my Dell laptop came with no DVD burner.
My old Toshiba laptop has a good internal DVD burner.
Do I simply take the old Toshiba's internal DVD burner out and snap it in to the enclosure? Is it all universal fitting?
I was looking at this ebay item
Thanks

Take your laptop apat. Unscrew back covers.

Take a serious look at the ribbon cable between base and screen.

This is usually the problem when monitor quits.

You can get a replacement ribbon cable at any computer store.

Class, darn. A little old for school but not for learning something new everyday! LOL!

didnt have time to read the thread but you can purchase a usb adapter that you can plug your laptop harddrive into and then plug it into a deslktop computer, it will show up like a usb drive.

but you need to remove it from your laptop. not hard
