Colorado S&M'ers...

I'll try providing some updates for the Irwin/Crested Butte Area this year.
It'll be a mix of observations and CB Avalanche Center weather updates.

Also - do consider joining the Gunnison County SnoTrackers if you come to town; it's cheap and helps with grooming and keeping riding areas open to motorized use!

Gunnison County Sno Trackers Snowmobile Club.

Always ride prepared - training, beacon/probe/shovel, more training.

Hope you find the snow reports useful!
Suggestions are always appreciated.

Right on - yea, thanks! Slowest's tennor is getting a little over the top for most of us. S&M looks like a well thought out set of categories/forums - nice to see the off-road mud portion too.

Anyways - not much to report yet, about 2 feet have fallen year-t-date, and the roads are barely rideable, if at all yet.

However, 2 seasons ago we got 48" in one night down in town on Dec 6th, and nearly twice that up at Irwin - so....it can happen!!

Yeeha! Pray for snow!

MD.

My wife and I rented Snowmobiles from Action Adventures last week. We rode down to Lake Irwin area, it was very nice. We're planning on going back and bringing our Polaris RZR's. Still trying to decide on what to do for tires though. I have 29.5 Outlaws on my RZR, she has stock tires on hers. Would snow chains be better than snow tires? We plan on staying on the groomed trails but that's still pretty slick for just rubber tires. I'd like to have a little overkill on equipment, we take our 8 y/o daughter and 7 y/o son with us. I certainly don't wanna get stuck somewhere with any of them!

Thanks

I dont know how they do things in the states but here in Canada we would like wheeled vehicles to stay off our groomed snowmobile trails. Damage done by tires cost lots of grooming dollars to repair. Want a good safe ride rent some touring sleds and bring the kids on those with you. Thanks

What if I put tracks on my RZR's? I can't imagine that the tire would do a lot of damage to the trail, especially a hard packed trail. But I certainly wouldn't wanna mess up anyones riding area, I just think it would be cool to ride my RZR's on a snow trail! I've never done it!
