I just got a BBM request from someone I may or may not know. I am wondering how someone could have got my BBM ID number?
It could be a customer of mine? Maybe even a S&M member??????
Is it posible to be spam?

I'm not really sure how the system works.

It's kinda like a Bluetooth connection... They or you need to accept a request in the form of a PIN or bar code picture In order to use the function. My guess is spam.???? But I'm no expert.

That is what i thought (Bluetooth or pin). Wonder what they gain by sending out random pin numbers? Thx for the reply.

Only works based on the PIN of your device, spammers randomly choose PIN numbers and send stuff out. No technology is safe!

But you can invite someone without knowing their PIN. You can invite through email and SMS as well. That's where the spam usually comes in. Easy enough to block if you don't know who they are.

You wouldnt be getting spam through a bbm request. IF the phone is second hand a number of people could have that pin because it never changes. If someone typed one letter or number wrong it could have gotten sent to you by accident. Those are typically the reason for this. I have had a blackberry for years, and those are the only reasons ive had it happen, not spam, ever. Emails are where spam is, not on BBM or PIN messaging. Its all encrypted so things like spam don't exist. in the blackberry world.

Agree...in 10+ years, I have never seen spam to BBM, email however, whole different story. You could always add them, ask who they are, then if you dont want them, just delete. often its someone you know.

I haven't had many, but I did get a rash of BBM requests through email that were not legit people.

Hehe I can only delete them so many times before you make me get a iPhone!! Oh yeah, and the BB is old and antiquated now...

lol you just watch, android didnt do near as many sales as anticipated for the S3. Apple is getting boring, and Blackberry is coming out with a new product that can do more than both of them together. Android has to eat up a huge chunk of sales just to get their phones on the market. Apple is huge because they can hit every bit of the demographic because they are easy to use with in your face icons and no folders, a 5yr old or 65yr old can use it instantly. Blackberry you have to have a brain to utilize its features which is why business people still stick with them to this day unless someone slipped them some apple juice and they jumped on the wagon. You would be absolutely amazed at how many people buy all these expensive phones though and know how to use about 5% of its features. such a huge waste of money when these guys might as well have kept their motorola flippers haha But all that being said its all a matter of opinion. I am a blackberry user, but i love my ipad. And if i could kill iTunes i would. :)

I haven't personally owned an I phone but my daughter has one now. Nice toy, but I will stick with my BB for business. I recently got the Play Book. That is one slick unit and bridging it up together with my phone is amazing.
I'm am eagerly waiting for BB10 and the new phones it comes with.
Check this out, pretty cool LOL

Devs, BlackBerry Is Going To Keep On Loving You - YouTube#!

Oh and A quote I read....

Most app developers follow the herd. That is the cause for popularity of Apple and Android. The crowd at the BB10 ‘camp-fire’ is still pretty small, but it’s the right time to grab a seat in the first circle. This is a movement that will gradually build and gain momentum. In the long run, RIM plans to take on Apple head-on. Unlike Android or Windows, BlackBerry is bound to be a major player since the new OS is capable of running on multiple devices and RIM has its own range of killer devices to go with this amazing platform. In the end, providing the user with great UI and features is the main goal.

I hope BB pulls it off!!

Business sticks with them for only one reason... BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server) which connects their internal email safely and securely to the encrypted blackberry network.

Not to mention BBM actually keeps you in close contact with many business contacts you would probably forget about over time. I bought an iphones 5 the day it came out, used it for a week, played games and listened to music, after that week, piece of junk sat on the table so i sold it on ebay for $1200 lol

I'm not sure how bb would keep you in closer contact than regular email on your computer or through another mobile platform... They all (pretty much) do the same things. User ergonomics are different, and BB is about 3 generations behind due to their CEO's being asleep at the switch and thinking that brand loyalty would keep them stronger than what occurred.

Too bad Balsillie didn't get his NHL franchise. He would have something to do now.
