If telus has the student plan still it is a good one. I bucked the kids getting phones and they were both the last in the class to get them. I was wrong, they are what walkie talkies were to us. don't buck the new era. I believe it's our responsibility to teach them how to respect it. they need to learn all they can in the new electronic era, My youngest is now 16 and rebuilds his iphone by you tubing instructions.

Guy wanted suggestions on phone and/or plan,.. not tips on how to be a parent or at what age should a child have a cell phone.

Rogers had a really good family plan also had a student plan.
I've had my boy's carry a cell phone now android since they were 10 and traveling with the ski club in the mountains, they could call me anytime from anywhere. It gave us piece of mind to know that they could call us when ever, where ever.

The smart phone's now a day you can down load GPS tracker and see where your kids are when they are carrying the phone and the app is FREE.

My wife and I are bucking it too. My oldest daughter is 9...and a few of her freinds have cell phones. She hasn't been pushing too hard yet, but I know she will be soon. I realize it's a different era than it was when I was 9, but I still think 9 or 10 or 11 is too young to be walking around with a cell phone.
