I don't have an iPhone but do have a BlackBerry. I've installed a cross-platform app called WhatsApp. Some of my friends with iPhones have also installed the app allowing us to text back and forth using our data plans instead of our cell phone providers SMS service. It works pretty darn good.

My cell plan gives me unlimited texting. So for me I dunno if it would be a worth while app. If yer wifi it would Be ok but if yer 3G linking then I imagine it would be costing you data time.

The skype thing with built in cam in iPhone looks cool. I just don't know anyone that I could video chat with.

And btw I am really starting to hate them damn angry birds, Just started into level 4.

Is this one a drain on the battery? I've heard that GPS aps are hard on the batteries.

Thanks everybody, keep the app suggestions coming. I am sure I am not the only one that likes to find out about cool apps!:beer::beer:

ya it uses more battery but chances are you wont use it for prolonged periods of time.

i had the walkie talkie app cant remember the name but it was gay lol. it was like texting...accept voice messages not text. not quite like mike.

another sweet app is called "icam" It allows you to use the webcam on your computer to stream live video to your iphone, as long as your comp is connected to wifi. (iphone can be connected to wifi or 3g). It can is VERY easy to use and can be set to send you an alert when it detects motion, or you can have it set to record when it detects motion so you can review the video later. your computer can go to sleep, and the cam still works. it records sound to. I freak out my family with this app all the time, by telling them i can see them at home every time they walk by the computer ha. it costs 4.99, whatev it cool lol.

I feel a jailbreak coming soon... im getting bored with my phone

So it looks like ill NEVER lose my phone again.... with the new 4.2 OS for iphone, ipod, and ipad, you can track your device, lock it, wipe it, make it display a message like "this phone is lost please return it", make it play a tone at full volume even if it is on silent. all for free through apple. so cool, so cool.

I just got a new Iphone 4 32g...with contract. I am presently working in the jungle in Indonesia, and about a week ago somebody stole my phone!! Everybody needs to install the device locator I think. Otherwise pay the 7 bucks a mth for insurance!! A new one without contract from Bell is only 780 dollars...:rant::rant:

I have this app on my Iphone and it works almost like Black Berry Messenger, it is better than texting and you are able to send pictures and sound clips as well

I just installed the update. Adds even more features and looks better. Much better than SMS to keep in touch with other users.

ihunter is good, shows any zone you are in and public, private or crown land. $7 and then you buy WMU's but it's pretty handy and works without signal...

I use an inReach for safety purposes when out in the back country. Download Earth Mate from Garmin (free) and use your phone keyboard to send messages/pictures to any of your contacts. Sync the phone and the inReach and the signal goes from the phone to the inReach to a satellite. No cell phone coverage needed.
