hey anybody that lives in the sticks and currently gets their internet through an air card or turbo stick i highly suggest gettin an iphone 4 and just tether it instead! its dam simple just plug ur phone into ur computer and u have the internet just the same.

best thing is i was paying telus 35 bucks a month for my cell and 35 for 1G of data on an air card and now all i pay with virgin is $35 for my regular plan then i put on 6G of data on for $30,,, so long story short i get 6x the internet and one dam cool phone for cheaper than i was payin! screw telus:mad:

I use Rogers right now, spend about 80 bucks a month for my wife phone and my phone (not smartphone) on a couples plan, and pay about 40 bucks a month for internet stick. This sounds like it could save me some money. Might have to look into it.....

no need to get an iphone 4 as the iphone 3gs does the exact same thing...

No need to get an iphone at all. Nearly every Android device does USB tethering and most also do Wifi tethering with free apps from the market ;)

Interesting story about cell phones. We had a rescue call the other day for a hunter who was by himself, fell and was injured. He was able to call 911 and give his exact lat. and long. coordinates from his I-phone so we could find him. He would have been very hard to find otherwise.

Just FYI You can do this with all Blackberry's as well. If it doesn't make calls when in data mode, it's not the phone's fault. CDMA (ie. 3G) only has one data channel - either you use it for data, or voice, not both. You also can't user your phone's browser when on a call either, if you have ever tried it. HSDPA (ie. 3G+) has multiple data channels I believe, so you can do both. So, it's the network, not the phone.

Yes, tethering is the way to go if you don't want to pay for an extra contract, and should be just as fast.

HTC desire and the samsung Andorids don't need teather cables they do Wifi hotspots up to 8 devices and can make a call all at the same time. No need for wires they rock.

Just use your phone for Internet, either make a wifi hotspot or through bluetooth. It will just add up as data usage on your phone plan. Nothing more to it.

interesting. the wife and i came across an accident last fall up the road from our house, women came off the pavement @ mach chicken and lost controll when she hit the gravel, multiple rolls flips etc. she was pretty beat up. went to cell service area 1/2 mile up the road. call 911 were are you, well as we are in the sticks kinda i figure gps coordinates from the trucks nav would be best. the women at the call center asked what do you want me to do with those. i am like thats were she is at. well it does me no good she says where is she by road. well about 2-21/2 miles down rr xxx and between twp rd xyz and xyzx. well cant you be more specific she asks.
fawk off. i'll bring her to you meet me at x spot on highway. was wierd i though all emerency vehicle would be gps compatible, if thats the right term to use, by now.

as for the internet thing wife and i have been doing that for a while now. best part is work pays for the data plan on my phone hehehehe.
