Kodiak pump any good ?

Is the 3 stage Kodiak pump decent for pushing a 3000lb boat ? How does it compare to a Hamilton? Only found a couple reviews on mean chicken about it. Pricing out a new boat and the hami is a 5300 $ upgrade.

Adding the Hamilton will add resale value as well.

Salesman will tell you they are the same but they definitely aren't. You can get a Honda civic to go as fast as a Ferrari, but is it the same?

Good for up to 4800lbs boats they say. (Loaded)

I talked to Steve about the kodiak pump. He said it’s basically a old Hamilton 7?? (can’t remember the number) he said it’s a good pump and does like to pump trash. But you got three impellers he said at $1500 a piece. I wouldn’t hesitate to put it on my boat. The price point is there

770 I think? Look at what the rebuild cost of your pumps wear parts before changing. multistage must be a long prick!

Seen a few painted reverse buckets on 770s... always god for a laugh!

That’s what I heard too was it was the original design of the hami , it’s better for pumping trash but not as efficient. So I’m assuming it would be get worst fuel mileage. But at a 5300$ price difference I think it might be fun to try

People take them out and replace with Hamilton for a reason .
They are noisy as well .
Put a pressure pump in if you want to save some money as nothing wrong with them .

The kodiak pump has been around for a while, yet I've seen very few of them on the river. If there were the cats meow everyone would have one by now.

Why would you deliberately put an uncommon pump on a boat to save about 5% on the total cost? Everyone that knows anything about jet boats knows what a Hamilton 212 is, there's a reason for that, it's pretty hard to beat its versatility and reliability. Think of resale value too, you might find the Kodiak desirable but will the next guy? My guess is you'll loose more on resale value than you'll gain on initial purchase price.

Was looking at the 5.3di / Kodiak combo. You do bring up a good point that not very mainly ppl run the Kodiak. And the resale value.

Either way though it would still be a good upgrade from current set up with the sd309. Not that I ever had any issues with it , but it does have its down falls. Poor handling at slow speeds and useless reverse.

I'd have a look at the 6.2 for the same reasons. The 6.2 is only 10lbs more and makes 65hp more. Not sure what fuel economy difference is, but the 6.2 is really good for a big V8. I rode in a 19' Piranha with one just after they came out with the fuel consumption gauge, I was very impressed with what they can do for fuel economy, I don't remember exact numbers but they blow any carbed V8 out of the water and even make the EFI V8's look bad.

There's a reason most production boats are coming with a 6.2 and a 212 these days, they work and are reliable. I like the idea of the Ecoboost motors but I've gotten a lot of mixed reviews on them, particularly in the reliability department.

I’ve been following that , super impressive for sure !!!! I’m just being cheap and trying to keep the price of my upgrade down to that 25g Mark. If a guy adds the hami , 6.2, fancy paint , it jumps up quick. Just trying to figure out where I can cut corners but still get a nice boat.

Where are you pricing out boats?

So many manufacturers now....
