Looking at a 2014 four Winns horizon 180 RS package with the inboard 4.3l mercruiser MPI. Has the matching trailer to go with it. Being the middle of winter it’s probably a decent time to look to buy. so talk me out of, or into buying this thing.

What is the quality and craftsmanship like on the four Winns?
Any common problems one could foresee?
Hows the reliability?
Are they a heavy boat?

Only problem I see is that it's December and the ice might beat but the fiberglass pretty good. Joking

We looked at one couple years back and are very nice boats. Decided to go a different route to something that more suited or style but would not rule one out that's for sure

Friend of ours had an older one a couple yrs ago. Think it was around a 2000-2003 or 2004. It worked good for him. Seems like a solid boat. The 4.3 is a pretty proven engine. I wouldn't shy away from one if I was in the market.

Four winns are nice but the 4.3 is a little small in my opinion
Not with the MPI in a 18' boat. In fact, not sure you can even get a 5.0 in an 18 footer. I had a 5.0 carb in a 19.5. In my opinion, I would prefer the 4.3 MPI.

I agree the 4.3 should be lots of power for an 18 foot boat. I had a 20 footer with a fi 4.3 and was more than enough power for me and decent on fuel

I am mai lot after reliability, and economy. I go out on the lake alone most of the time so I want to be able to get back to the launch every time. It helps that the boat looks pretty slick, lots of nice features. And maybe be able to get some babes on it lol:firefire:

I see you mentioned you go out on your own lots. If thats the case then a 18 ft is good. Hwvr, if you like having yours friends or family join its a bit small. I have a couple friends who bought an 18 ft boat and curse themselves in doing so as they find it too small. We have a 21 ft Crownline and thinking of selling to buy a tritoon boat for more space. Damn grandkids keep coming LOL. Good luck in your decision.

Hull design is good hardly any bow rise when your planing the ride quality is decent the only issues I’ve seen in these years were gel coat cracks lots of gel coat cracks Glastron and scarab are built in the same factory I’ve seen this issue from there 2013 to early 15. Other than that it doesn’t mean the boat will sink just the exterior color cracks just be aware. Interior quality is good haven’t seen any issues in there. Hope this help.

Well people at auctions never cease to amaze me, they had a “buy it now” price listed so if someone wanted it enough they could just buy it for the price that the seller wanted... and the idiot bid over the buy it now price. Which went way over my head on this boat i’m afraid.
