Building a 19ft sport jet boat this winter, plan is gm crate zz6 engine but wondering what pump to put in it, If it matters? Will be either Berkeley, a dominator, or a an American turbine sd309. Any one know if it matters which one to chose? Seems like surfing some of the forums guys like the dominator over the others for light weight sport boats?

Sd309 might be a bit big for a sport jet. Takes some power to get the pressure required to make it move. Same would go for Berkley depending in the model. This pumps are typical on a v8. Probably better with the dominator or look for SJ pumps imo

He might mean an A/T 309 not the heavy duty SD

no real advantages/disadvantages. Slight differences in shape, bearings and seals. The intake of an A/T might be a bit different pattern due to shape of the pumps intake flange. Guys use all 3 succesfully

Not a "sport jet" aka mercruiser combo, this is a v8 "sport" boat i.e. no windshield, deeper V, 65-70mph river boat, so yes was considering the sd309.

You are building a boat? You guys will probably give me grief but here it goes. Don’t rule out a sport jet. Find an older sea-doo boat with a 240sj in it. Lake boats have lower hours usually so the motor will be good. This way you have a motor, pump all the cables and trailer for around 6-8g. My uncle had a eagle 17’ step Tec sport with a 240 and it was a rocket! It was a 60mph boat, with stock nozzle. Now add an Exact welding posi nozzle and hi skew impeller you could get another 3-4mph easy. They are nice and short pump and motor to which will free up room inside the boat. And most guys don’t realize sj are rated hp at the pump so a 240 is closer to 280.

But that being said I get why guys like the v8 just thought I would throw that out there.

Can't beat the SJ for power/weight. Noisy though... a 19' SJ might be a dog compared to the '17. FI CT525 and Berkeley, Dominator or A/T pump would be my choice in a 19' sport boat. The ZZ6 is a nice piece but with the LS you lose weight and gain power.

Ahh sorry. Maybe miss read the op. But again depending and the degree of the V will affect pump decisions again. I had a sd309 on my 21ft VW. Even with the Alaskan bulk head I could do 50mph, 10mph faster in the salt. Good pump if your in the power all the time. Would say the Berkley to be a similar pump. If your looking for some easier maneuverability and bottom end grunt I would go with a Hamilton but you may sacrifice the top end. So much will determine exactly what motor you go with. Your expectations are 65mph+ so assuming ls3 or lsa. You can also adapt each pump to the motor by changing impeller. A great combo in my opinion, not that it means anything, is a 6L with the Hamilton. Great all around package and best bang for the $$$

I've rode in a 17 eagle sport jet, was fun but the buzz bomb in the back was obnoxious. Thought about a Ct, I know that's a great motor power and weight.

They need to put the mufflers out side the boat for sure! When I bought my extreme duty I was surprised how quite it was, it’s 2013 so the mufflers are under the swim deck makes a huge difference.

Roger has a great amount of knowledge and experience on the water. Pretty much the only professional jet boat captain I know. He will say they make 3 types of pumps "there's the Berkeley, the Berkeley and that other one... oh the Berkeley" lol similar answer will be had about what degree bottom... 8,8 and 8. Pm if you want his number

Thanks for the link, was wanting to use a trim nozzle but don't like how far a place diverter sticks out, you have any experience with the "ex welding" ones out of Prince George?

Nothing against this forum but you might want to check out meanchicken. Lots of jet knowledge there.

X2, same here, nothing against this forum but the knowledge you will find at Meanchicken is the place to be for jet boats. The entire forum is all jet boats covering everything and not just limited to a few.

Exact makes them for the sport jet only as far as I know? Or they might be making for other pumps now. I got his posi nozzle on my boat, not many hours on it yet but it make it feel like power steering compared to other sport jets I know of. They know there boats.

Call exact. Flow pro and Hamilton are pumps that can take a beating. Claude knows jets, he came out with us last yr and filled us with knowledge on your choice of motor/pump combinations and why. Shy away from sport junk.

Exact makes them I talked to them today... all for the low price of $4500 for nozzle, bucket and hydraulics. That's not even remotely reasonable in price. Looks like either a normal wedge or a place diverter, can get those used for about 750 complete.
